ATM I'm with the aa and for roadside assist and relay its £127.41.

ive just gone with aa the real basic breakdown cover you have to be quarter a mile away from home,£38.00
they gave me £20.00 of boots vouchers and after a month they came and pulled my van out of a muddy field

I’m with the AA about £196 per year and it covers both wife and self and some friends  ;) also get a gold car to boot.

By the way they won’t work on a TM

i have just paid £175 to cover both me & the Mrs with the AA, it gives me the highest cover available, and having called them out a couple of times last year well worth it for the peace of mind - or you could say its a small cleaning job to get fully coved for a year

Cant remember what I pay exactly but its no where near the figures quoted above! It covers most things. I'm with gladiator van insurance.

Pay 17 quid a month with barclays and get RAC cover, mobile phone insurance, free travel insurance, free gadget insurance, enhanced warranty on household goods-usually 12 or 24 months over manufacturers warranty, free entry to  excecutive lounges at airports and concierge  service which can provide tickets for matches, shows or anything else you want.

My wife went through my insurance cover with a fine tooth comb as she used to be an under writer and negotiated a policy with no breakdown cover it worked out quite a bit cheaper so I took out cover with the AA but this years premium was taking it too far I only paid £39 last year, I've just gone to Greenflag and added her car on for £59 in total and upped the cover as her BMW roadside assist has run out as well, funny thing though to cancel the policy the lines were all engaged and it cuts you off so I went in as a new customer and got straight through the little besoms!

RAC about £8 odd a month.

The reason I prefer the RAC is that should you require a long distance recovery they will take you all the way in one go. Whereas the AA take you to the edge of their territory and then switch to another AA patrol who takes you to the edge of there territory and so on, and you may have to wait each time.

This is what the RAC told me though so it could be boll ocks

I have just changed from green flag to AA. The problem with green flag although it is cheap they do not even look at the problem or try and sort it out. It is a recovery service. In the past with the AA and Rac many of the problems can be fixed at the roadside which saves a lot of inconvenience and even if it is not fixable they are normally competent enough to diagnose the problem acurately.
What ever service provider you use they all work out a pittance, but you tend to get a lot of benefits with the dearer policies. We did have cover with the AA at one time that gave us overnight hotel accomadation.
Cover for driving or being a passenger in another vehicle is also well worth a little extra.

Having worked for both the AA and the RAC, I can tell you that you will NOT get the same service from anyone else. All patrols have laptops specifically to repair at the roadside and an ongoing training program and updates from all the manufacturers.

If you think the premium is too high, ring them up and discuss it with them. Tell them you love the service but the cost is too rich for your blood and you may have to look elsewhere if you can't come to an agreement over the price. Or bounce from one to the other each year.

All vehicles towed on long recoveries are subject to driving regulations ie tachographs so no company can promise a long distance recovery by the same driver.

My van insurance renewal came today (very happy with price) but with the box ticked for the rac (optional) will be phoning them near to time to see how much I will get of the premium

Am sure you can claim against tax if used for business

I use to be a RAC salesman for my sin's one thing to bear in mind is that RAC charge extra for van cover where as the AA don't.  They both offer incentives for new members and I would flip between the two to get best rates.  I currently pay monthly with AA and it cost £17 per month for home, relay and roadside on personal cover so it will cover me in my van and car.

One word of caution with those who have it through bank accounts and insurance, you are not treated as a full member and may have restrictions, also they may well give preferential treatment to full members who have broken down, also with it included in insurance you will only be covered in that vehicle, the one's with the bank accounts are the biggest rip off.

THE ONLY REASON i STAY WITH my bank card is the AA

You get a car for 4 days if it cannot be fixed.

Covers Van and car or any other vehicle I am in Wife covered also as she is part of joint account.

I have used bolier Breakdown Cover but was not pleased with service.

Locksmith Service OK but you must ring right number you cannot call their locksmith on ordinary number and put  a call through to correct number in morning when panic is over

Being a poor self employed person do not go To Carpet Cleaning get togethers in States or Cuba etc.

But hope to do trips to China if the ventures I have been workin on while ill take off.

I am with the AA I pay £9 a month and thats for everything Homstart , recovery, relay,
I once broke down in Aberdean and they took me right home,  and about twelve years ago my clutch cable snapped when i was in Essex and they took me all the way home,
I tried Green flag  but as Peter rightly says all they are interested in is recovery, I haven't used the RAC but they were more expensive than the AA when i Enquiried!

Same as Stuart, the AA took me all the way home from one county to another no swapping about with different areas with the van on the back.
They sorted me out and got me going again with previous van when gear stick just came off whilst driving, just waggling about in my hand.
When he got in to test drive it the hand brake cable snapped so he had to fix that as well for me.
