If I buy a uv/black light bulb from maplin for £5 and put it into a lampstand will it show up dog pee on a rug.

If not what would you recommend.

Thanks

No, not really, it's not powerful enough or focused enough.  I think it's Russ Chadd that's selling one that he showed at the TACCA day.  It's better than the one I paid nearly twice as much for, works in daylight too, so no need to close the curtains and doors, so it makes you look less 'threatening!' to the client too  :)

I got one of Russ Chad's UV torches and I have been a bit disappointed .......... I have not had chance to use it for a week or so and it earned me more than I paid for it, within the first 10 days of getting it  ;D

Odd how people assume that pets stop, cross their legs and then tiptoe over rugs or don't splash on sofa fronts  ....... only for you to 'highlight' the urine and add those rugs or sofas into job ....... can ignore guesswork but not glowing evidence  ::)roll

just out of curiosity chris, once you get the job and clean the sofa or rug, does the pee stain comeout easy and do you do the test again to show the custy? starting to like this idea.

I ordered one last week ready for a vomit job in a hotel, but as per usual I left it too late to order so didn;t get it in time. I've now got a cat urine job to do on Friday so I'll give it a go then. It's a really strong light, as Chris said you don't have to go round closing curtains for it to work.

Ignore what  Chris says, heonly bought this torch because his missus made him. She makes him shine it on his shoes and socks when he gets in every night as he keeps missing the pan. ;D

Got one of Chad's torches - they are excellent! Used it today to good effect on the last job of the day.

I did exactly this tonight Derek. Got my torch this morning then had a hotel vomit call out last thing. Took the torch with me to have a good look around then again once I had dried the carpet and fogged the room with 429+.

Then I went home for my tea. It was a long day 14 hours in total.

14 hours? You think that's bad? When I was a kid, we'd have to do 14 hours before we were allowed a fag break.

14 hours that's nothing we had to work 14 days with no breaks and get whipped by our dad and he'd dance on our graves while eating chickling bag!

Yes the black light will show it. Years ago i made a light with a black light floresent tube, it was three feet and it worked well but the room has to be pretty dark.
With the new led uv bulbs now the power is that good that you can see well with them in normal lighting conditions.

Mark
you will get what you pay for, you would be better off spending £25 ish on a 400w bulb it would be far more effective than a £5 bulb.  I have bought various several over the years and they vary considerably in performance. I have not seen the torches that Russ sells and am unaware of the price but would be interested in finding out as the torches tend to be a little more robust than bulbs, which have a limited lifespan unless well protected in the van.
How much does Russ charge for the torches and what are his contact details?
