RO advice needed please
« on: December 29, 2005, 09:39:32 pm »
Hi guys, have tried out wfp using di cylinder on outside taps good result but expensive, costing £40 a day in resin. wasting a lot of water as unable to stop flow whilst walking round house, can anyone give me advice on where i can purchase isolating valve to stop flow when necessary. also jets shoot water out eight foot on tap pressure how can i reduce this? I use brodex poles, water in my area is tds325.
Main question... Want to purchase an ro machine (could use 500-600 litres a day) brodex wont sell me one without their water tank( i can buy 2nd hand clean plastic 1000 litre tank in cage 4 £30 and get local plumber to fit it in garage so where can i just purchase suitable ro seperately and what can i expect to pay? ur help appreciated in this, Premature Happy New Year.

Hi Jon

Are you using just a DI vessel fitted to taps then hose out to pole or do you have some means of pumping?

If you intend to produce RO water into a static tank how are you going to get it transported and then pumped up the pole to windows?

Using resin the way you are is way too expensive and RO-Man kit does a good job but maybe there is more to think about than just that.

Cheers

Hi Jon

Have you thought about a trolley system?

 ;D

Hi Jon

Have you thought about a trolley system?

 ;D

Now why didn't I think of that Ben?   ;D

On a more SERIOUS note... if you give me a call on 01469 533112 tomorrow Jon I can talk you through the whole RO -Man range as we buy these in bulk to supply with our systems. In most cases we can supply RO-Man systems at slightly better prices than they retail them at. You get exactly the same kit with the same warranties etc.

I wont be cleaning windows tomorrow coz we have about 3 inches of snow and its well below freezing  :(

Cheers

Andrew

The tds readings are high! DI only not a remotely good idea with readings like that :o
If you are relying on just the tap pressure of mains water it is hardly surprising you are going through so much water.
With a proper system to suit your needs, whether it is a trolley/backpack/van mount or trailer system it is unlikely you'll use  anything like that amount of water.

No one system is the best, it depends on the depth of your pocket for one thing, and your own particular type of round, your vehicle and the type of house you live in. (1st floor flat, water meter, size of  or lack of garden etc.)

Ask as many specific questions on here as you can, check out the back pages too, there isn't a question you might have that hasn't already been answered somewhere on here!
But easier to ask a few direct questions and build up your knowledge base that way, searching out back posts is a pain! :-\

But try and think carefully about your questions, and don't put too many in a single post either! Otherwise half of them won't get properly answered ;)

Hi Jon,

A 200gpd RO unit should suffice. We sell the RO-Man systems and find these very reliable and we sell for slightly less than he does retail. Have a look on our site.

thanks lads, yes ian my plan is 2 put ro machine in garage and transport pure water in ivor williams 6 x 4 trailer possibly in transit later, ensivage 2 use 600 lires per day or less with 2 man team.  Work is mix of shops commercial and domestic and 1 day a week commercial grounds maintennance. wfp will not be appropiate 4 some of my work anticipate 2 use 2 days per week maybe more later. prefer trad wc on a nice day as less stressfull but can see the advantages of wfp, but till i get ro can u tell me how 2 cut down on water as i am going from outside tap 2 di vessel through 2 pole. thanks.  ps its been tipping it down all day here, northants

Hi jon

you could try peter fogwells auto brush, it has a water on / off switch fitted to the brush head.

I 've been using one for around a month and all i can say is it works great :)

You can see one being used at www.window-tools.com[url=http://]]]window-tools.comhttp://

hi John

yeh ive got Peter's auto brush, though not realistically in Jons case as tds is high, but when using water direct from mains (as i can cos its a smashing 20 tds) the combination of the two might work well.

alternatively, don't turn the tap on as much (though i know this can be a bit erratic)

Hi i notice your spending £40 a day on resin :'( with that in mind it wont take you to long to save up for ro setup.

You can get water tanks cheap enough i got a 1000ltr ibc tank for £40 that's 1 days resin.

you've got the pole already so all you'll need is a pump and ro system.

oh yeah you'll need a transfer pump to pump water from tank to trailer you can get those for under £25 on ebay.

maybe its not going to cost you as much as you thought bearing in mind what your spending already

Jon,

I see that you intend to work from a 6' x 4' Ifor Williams trailer, and maybe later buy a Transit.  Suggest you have a look at our new modular 75 litre tanks on our comprehensive new website at http://www.andwat.co.uk/acatalog/MODULAR_75_LITRE_VEHICLE_TANK.html

You can plug as many of these modules together as you need (and will fit in your trailer).  They're baffled, only 305mm high, and their centre of gravity is low, so vehicle handling is exceptionally good.  They're also strong enough to carry the rest of your stuff on top.  Most important of all, when you change your vehicle, it's unlikely that you'll ever need to buy a new tank.  You can probably simply rearrange your existing modules to suit the new vehicle floor plan, or maybe buy a couple more £50 modules to give yourself a bigger tank!

Give me a call on 01704 541578 if you want to discuss this exciting new idea further in principle.  Several of our customers have proved them in everyday use, and swear they're the best thing since sliced bread.

Yours,  Andrew

matt

Thanks ben, john and andrew, guess you guys have saved me a good few quid. Will be purchasing a 300gpd ro soon 4 £250 plus spending on a few bits like pump and tansfer hose and 1000 litre tank £30 and plumbing compared to £2500 for brodex complete system. have used di vessel for 4 days only to see if i was compatible with wfp b4 jumping straight in. Will need approx 600 litre baffled tank if u could point me in right direction, thanks again  :D

Hi Jon

Have a look here for baffled tanks

http://www.smithsofthedean.co.uk/Emergency%20Tanks.htm

They show a 400 and a 650 ltr one. No prices but from what I know they are very competetive and give great service.

Cheers
