why not get a riso, we have one and it saves us loads. my old printer guy used them to print so if its works for him its good for me. we have had three all secondhand and quality is great. in fact we only spend a few hundred pounds but if We really wanted to splash out and spend a thousand we could have got one that prints direct from computer and prints A3, thats pink leaflet area

Big advantage is that you can change offer at any time also the exp date both important things to be able to react to. say you get loads printed and the offer is not working you just change it and try something new. its not we think prospects want its what works.

Tried local printers and they want silly money £250 + for 5,000 leaflets.

Have considered Riso Ian but not got a lot of spare space left in our house at the moment and then there is the cost of the machine.  What is killing me at the moment is the cost of the paper, the cheapest i can find it for is £8.99 per ream of 500 sheets at W.H. Smith its one of those items which does not appear to be cheaper online due the weight of posting it.

Will have a look at Riso if i can't get a print them for me at a good price.

Get your leaflet done as a full colour jpeg 10times the actual size, then design it with the text in segments within the page. Then you can open it in MS Paint and white out the text and replace it with fresh text so the leaflet can be altered and fresh offers can be put on.

Then order as little as a 1000 at a time, this give you the flexibility of home printing but still with a great design in full colour

Ian

I am more home made than that... I use A4 paper and do 2 leaflets on it, however I use a steel ruler and sharp stanley knife to cut them in half.....

I have it down to a fine art now, and you would not know that I have not got a cutting machine to see them now.....

Hi Hector , you are very bright why did I not think of a Stanley Knife how many can you do at a time.

Anybody sourced a seller of secondhand folding machines that work

10 - 20 A4 pages at a time.... many more than that and you start to get "angles" on the leaflets...

Richard Asda and Tesco sell reams of A4 white at £2.99.
Everyday this forum slips further from God.  :'(

Thanks for the replies guys.

Mike i've dropped a lot of glossy leaflets in my time (not anywhere near as you granted)  i then tried a d.i.y leaflet this time last year and the response was much higher than the professional leaflet, i then got my d.i.y leaflet and tried a glossy version of it without pic's (if that makes sense) i thought it looked good actually but i did not get one job from it.
I think part of the reason is that people see so much junk mail these days that they just throw it in the bin without reading it.  That's why a d.i.y leaflet gets more response as people immediately see it looks different to the rest of the junk mail and look at it to see what's it about, they also perceive you as local.  In fact i came across an old leaflet of yours on cleantalk last night, looks a bit like old western wanted poster, all text, i quite like it.  I've based mine loosely on the pink flyer (well the colour anyway ;D)

Hector - white is boring  :) Pink makes it stand out and appeals to the lady of the house, although i'm sure other colour's would work too.

Would disagree with a lot of what has been said. I used to deliver single colour leaflets and they did give me a different customer. Probably used single colour for about 7 years, before getting colour done as well. When I had a sign writing business we had a rico a3 printer with duplex and my partner had spent all his life in the print business. The Rico was ok for short runs but any quantity was cheaper to source out. A lot of the customers I go to have had loads of leaflets through the door unless you are willing to be the cheapest you need to project a professional image.
Put the cost of ink paper etc together and you are better leaving it to the people that are equipped for volume.
A decent print machine can cost 100 s of 10000 s. do not think you can product the same with a machine costing a few 100 pounds.

With respect to all posters,I used to work in print before CC and I have witnessed its sad decline as printers have been forced to cut prices and margains over the years. Some of the prices offered for printing leaflets these days are suicidal.

I honestly don't know how they can be making any profits.I know some companies who haven't given staff a rise for over 10 years.

I find it odd that CC's moan when people price shop, buy cheap and even use RD's,yet some CC's don't want to pay a fair price for printing.

Don't get me wrong, i want to use a printer but i don't want a glossy leaflet with pictures. I resurrected this thread as i wanted to see if Trade Print Warehouse were reliable and if anyone had used them recently as i had failed to contact them.  Whilst i respect that printers have to make a living, don't we all, that does not mean to say i am gong to pay through the nose for it. Like most i shop around first to get an idea of prices and quality available.

Hi Richard,I don't think you will pay through the nose for print these days, there are some silly prices being offered out there.IMO unsustainable prices. Some of the prices I see include delivery too.I don't know where these printers are getting their board/paper from,it must be off backs of lorries ;D

Try Paul Clark Printing, in Topsham. We get ours done there and costs are £3.25 per 1000, on colour one side in reflex blue we get 250,000 per print run, You may also want to try Good Time Printing in Kent, they are cheap as well

FT guy in my area spends over £40 1K just for royal mail thats on top of printing and folding costs his minimum charge is £120 which he clearly says on his stuff.

These numbers work for him.

its about what works and where you are in your business.

what really interesting is that you can have so many ways of reaching your goal. you might have a really effective message on your leaflet that only takes a thousand a week to get in say £500. or it might have a weaker message and take 5K

its never just on thing that makes something work or makes a prospect pick up the phone. I am sure you amazed how someone in your area could use another carpet cleaner when your living and working in that area  :)
