« on: April 23, 2010, 07:45:01 pm »
Went round to quote for lounge/dinner, hall, stairs, landing, settee & chair. Told her what we would charge then she informs us she had them cleaned last year by someone who was charging £15 per room, "it looked nice after he had finished" So i asked the obvious why have you not rung them........They are no longer trading came the reply........What a surprise. ;D

And by then the damage has already been done ::) Thats what the customers expect because its donuts like that who think that by doing cheap will create a great business, by undercutting everyone.

Doh.

This is what makes it so hard for real pros who want to give value for money, when they have to compete with the misguided, unethical, untrained baffoons out there.

And so the cycle continues...

I was talking to a Buy to Let Landlord yesterday with very bad carpets
I explained why I need to charge x
and I am sure he did not get where he was by charging penuts
But as far as he was concerned CarpetCleaners are like buses one goes away and along come another.

In my opinion he should have invested in some new carpets,

Hi Paul I know who you are talking about and the deal was a bid to drum up business and the quality was good. As you already said they are no longer trading but we are now running what was their business!

I'll tell you how they do it........

1. They offer the bait.....£15 per room - the customer takes the bait and books
2. CC turns up on the day and offers the customer a non residual clean (this is a scam where they tell the customer that the carpet won't go dirty again in a few weeks). This will cost 50% extra.
3. After being drawn in on a 'non residual clean' the cc offers scam number 2 - he can scotchguard the carpet too and this will be added to the talk of the machine so that the carpet will be scotchguarded as it's cleaned. Of course this costs another 50%
By this time the bill for each room has rises to approx £34.

In goes the cc with his machine (no pre vac or pre spray usually), a quck rinse over and job done. These cc's don't rely on repeat custom funnily enough!

SO we all have a go at the £15.00 per room guys ......

But why ALSO have a go at guys that are trying to up the industry and get everyone trained and selling to a standard were more carpet cleaners can make real money and the public getting there carpets cleaned more often???

My post do not recommend anyone but make carpet cleaner FOCUS on where they want to be and where the ARE!!!!
Carpet, Upholstery cleaning & hard floor cleaning.

Dont forget the spelling ;D  That is not a professional looking website, where was the proof reading :-X .
If the attention to detail exhibited in this site is anything to go by, then his carpet cleaning will be crap too.

Hi Guys

There always have and always will be people offering rubbish carpet cleaning at these prices.

I run a quality operation and would not even consider these prices nor want to work for people who want to pay them.

There are lots of good quality customers, go for them!

Cheers

Doug

As Steve says normally these people are bait and switch merchants no repeat customers but then again they don't need them, they normally have loads of jobs /day . I have said before on this forum of a guy I know that used to run his business like that and made a mint . He didn't do the donkey work he had 3 guys doing it for him and taking a large chunk of the profits for all their hard work . I bet you guys wouldn't mind taking £1500/week for just taking the phone calls ,and as far as I know never got any call backs .
