I found this while looking through e-bay and it looks pretty good for trad guys, particularly when working on uneven surfaces:

imo i was working wiv a friend on wed who fell
laddder slipped on decking on wednesday
only battered n bruised but complacency breeds contempt

It looks like they 'slide' so if you're working on uneven ground; a slope; the angle of your ladder will still remain 90 degrees to the ground. And also because of the wider distance between the feet, it will help prevent sideways slip.
I've never used these, I just thought they looked a clever bit of kit.

this wont stop the ladder sliding outwards but is good for uneven ground or ground with a severe sideways slope on it, it could also be used on steps where only one stile will fit on a step surface.
