Please help!
« on: April 21, 2010, 08:08:21 pm »
Hey guys.

Got a pumphead on my airflex changed today as it gave up its life on me. (my fault)
The tech has installed a new one as you can see from the pics, and i unfortunatly was in a rush and did fully test it out. It works fine when you fit the priming hose too is, but when you attach the soluation line with the wand it doesn't give anything plus the pump stops altogether!

The problem is the red hose on the right hand side of the pumphead, there's a major kink when you try and close up the machine! The tech obviously didn't know this was an issue  :-[

So my question is, how can i avoid creating the kink when i close the machine? Sounds silly i know but i have been scraching my head for the last couple of hours.  :'( Is the nut that comes out of the pump ment to point slighty vertical? So wish i could remember what it all looked like before i took it in....

The red hose on the right hand touches the blue casing when its close, thus creating the kink.

Many thanks
Tony

You would have been quicker to ask Matt to send you a photo of a machine showing how th epipe runs are then you could have copied. Just my opinion.

Which Airflex model is it?

I would assume it works with the primer pipe because there is no resistance, as soon as you block the other end with the solution hose the flow is increased with no exit from the pump. I have the bigger pump in mine so it's facing the other way (side to side) it appears to me from the photo's the pipes from the pump have been positioned wrongly, they have probably been tightened without consideration of position. Remove the pipe then the fitting from the pump. Put fresh ptf tape on the thread and put it back in the right position so it does not pinch. Don't be tempted to back it off if you go to far, it will leak, do it increments. You may need to shorten the pipe too. Check well for leaks. Put the drop in pipes from the solution tank into a bucket so you can run the pump with the case open. If you're not busy tomorrow email the photo to Matt at Cleansmart and give him a call. Oh and take photo's as you go great for looking back at as you re-assemble ;D

looks to me like that red pipe should be pointing back not forward. tighten the fitting another 180 degrees.

I agree with goron.

but the bigger issue is the use of jubilee clips on the high pressure side of the pump. also that looks a right bodge job, is that how it looked when it was new?

Thanks for the replys guys. :)

Mike, cant remember how it looked 100% when it was new but i am sure the two red pipes had jubilee clips on them. Do you recon its the wrong type of clips or somthing??

I'll try turning the fitting 180 degree's as mentioned.

Can i also ask, is there an easier way of removing the pipes from the fittings? i'm no weakly (so i thought) but when i tried removing them they where solid! :(

tony what pressure does the pump run at ?

jubilee clip are not rated over about 200psi they are Ok for the supply side but once the water leaves the pump you need hydraulically crimped hoses

warm the pipe up, loosen the clip then blow over it with a hair drier, or run hot water through the pump. When refitting put the pipe in hot water until it goes soft, push on and clamp before it cools.

Being so far North I can see why you don't nip to Cleansmart ;D I would still ask Matt for a photo or talk to him to clarify position of pipes etc, could save some hassle later, check it all under pressure too before you leave.

Good luck mate
