quote this eot for me
« on: April 12, 2010, 07:49:32 pm »
just visited a property for an eot clean and carpet clean in 2 weeks. i gave lady my price and she was amazed at how high it was.

i'll hold out my prices and see first what others say.

roughly it's a 4 double bedroom, 1 single bedroom house, 2 bathroom (1 shower, 1 bath) with limescale on taps ok, just bad in both toilets, 1 large kitchen with approx 20 cupboards all very greasy, large range oven, dining room, lounge, 3 areas of hallway, stairs. about 30% windows had light mould, others just normal dirt.

only rooms that aren't carpeted are bathrooms and kitchen, all the rest were carpeted and needed a good clean, no obvious stains but clearly been used.

what would others rough price be for this?

derek west

that's what i said, though i said it would be higher at £480 but we offered a discount if they use our carpet cleaner so total would be £450.

doubt we'll be hearing from her as she was quoted £250 from someone else.

Hi

Hey, for 250 let them get on with it.

Did a 6 bedder last year, quoted 350 for clean, 380 for carpets.
and did it straight away.

I would quote £500 easily and i know the sort of customers that want my service will pay that, because what they will get for that price is 100 better than what they will get for 250 or whatever.

it's a matter of opinion and what sort of customers you are trying to attract.

How much would you charge?

People will pay for quality, how is quoting over £500 'talking crap'?? £250-300 for a house of this description is too low.

Depends on where you are and on a lot of variations. The public aint idiots, do a good job, get a good reputation and people will pay to use you.

Hi Craig

I would be happy if I earned £300 per day for one clean too Craig but the reality is that it would take more than a day to clean so doesn't look quite so attractive then.  Personally, I have staff to pay so can't and don't charge in the stupid £8.50 per hour range.  Don't forget the price quoted is turnover not profit - wages can account for 60 to 70% of your income when you take into account holiday pay, employers NI and mileage allowances, plus you have other business overheads such as insurance, admin, marketing, etc.

It really winds me up that I have to compete with those who are cleaning for pocket money instead of running businesses that offer a great quality, reliable service.  Having said that, its one of the reasons I chose cleaning as my business because its not that difficult to be better than most of the competition  ;D

I quoted a 3 bed eot today for £240 but in addition we will guarantee that if their letting agent isn't happy that its clean enough, its our problem not the clients.

That's what they are paying for, not someone who just wants to earn 200 quid per day and thinks they're rich!

Grr I'm ranting a lot lately :)

Cheers

Diane

Diane ranted on one of my posts yesterday but she has a point and a very good one.  we are all trying to make money but you cant do it if your charging such low prices. most of us are trying to run a business on here not a one man band in and out quick buck crap show. we want to give high quality work and get paid a decent wage for it. NOT PEANUTS

Look at some of the more sucessful members on here they all charge in the region of £13-£14ph. there website's, business, groth plans and customer/staffing level should be the aspiration for anybody who is giving this a worth while shot.

Take Diane and GreenCleanSoultions for an example strait of my head.  there are many more on here.

For you Info Diane the Flyers have all been ammended now and i will post a updated version soon.

Now my rants over

Thx, Dan

True that not all clients will pay prices quoted, but there are many that will if the jobs done right!

Not every job will be £5-£600+, but if the job is that big and needs alot of attention using the right equipment using serveal staff then you will simply not survive charging low prices.

True that some (joe public) still view cleaning as a simple work-ok it aint rocket science. But depending what you do its a bit more than dustin here and wiping there. Equipment costs (alot in many cases), then theres maintenance and upgrading of equipment, training, insurance, materials, staff, utilities/rent (if got premise), diesel (which continues to rise), marketing, etc etc.

As the business grows, so will the costs-at the end of the day its a BUSINESS.

Please note- this is just my opinion, and im not having a go at anyone :D

Clients in most cases already have a ball part figure for which they want to pay and their decision is based on how far you fall within or outside of this.  There will be the small group that has no clue and it is those who will normally agree just to get the job done but this is a small group.

Just as a suggestion, the quote may appear more appealling if it was say presented as £250 clean and £200 carpet clean.  The end result would be the same.  If agreed you would  still earn £450 and if they felt the price was too high they could always opt for the clean without the carpet clean or visa versa.  the chances are they may still take the whole price at £450 and feel satisfied that they know exactly what each task is going to cost them.

For you its may be best to earn some money than lose the sale altogether.  If your price is rejected there is nothing else on offer.  Again you may feel satisfied that you did part of the job rather that the whole job and did not waste you time and effort.

Just a thought!

Diane,

;D I couldn't agree with you more, More of those cleaners, more work for us. Sooner or later people release that they are getting what they are paying for, it's just the matter of time.

Everytime I read post like this I want to rant, but I then think why should I bother  :-X , is not as if im losing any money or is damaging my business and if those people cant release that they are not making any money let them be. They will come to understand it one day but wether it will be too late it's a different matter.  ;D

Guys

Don`t forget your physcological marketing.

Say, well normally the price is 430 but I`ll take it down to 390 for you, obviously the price is that anyway (just an example)

Some of those doing things for pocket money do a better job than the pros, a lot of them are retired tradesmen with time on their hands.
My gardener charges £5 per hour to do my garden, he has all the tools , transport etc and he does the job twice as good as the last, so called professional. He too had all the gear and proper vehicle for the job but he was sh*te although his prices certainly weren't.

that's exactly how we present the price for all cleans, as we don't actually do the carpet cleaning ourselves this allows them to decide on just the property, then also carpets i'll offer a discount to use our guy along with using us, so they think it'll be more expensive with someone else and more hassle and use both of us.

True enough, there are those who have 'all the gear, but no idea'-they wont last long.

Point taken about your gardiner John, but what if he had a very large over grown garden (example), which need a lot of restoration. The client also wants it done in x amount of time for a family gathering, the gardiner on his own would not cope. So to do this he would need help (cost), with most proberly more equipment (cost) and materials (cost), extra insurance (cost) and so would have to up his price more so than if he had pleanty of time to do it on his own.

True it also depends on peoples circumstances as to what they charge, but id of though most of those charging low, low prices are either semi retired and not aiming for many jobs or with a view to 'running a business' or those that just want 'beer money'.

End of day, charge with what your happy with but i cant see how it can be done on very low prices.

Obviously this guy wouldn't take it on if it was too big for him.
He spent 4 hours on Saturday stripping back etc after the Winter.
Weeded and everything else tidied up ready for Summer.
How much mate, give us £20, he got £22.50!!!!!!!!!!!
Gave him £30.
Know what your saying.
There are some people out there though who charge next to
nothing and do a first class job.
Gets them out of the house and away from the wife.
