« on: April 07, 2010, 08:29:09 pm »
hi guys do any of you do any work for British rail?

How do you find them if you work direct and if you sub from other companies where do you do if you dont mind me asking?

We are starting Crewe and Liverpool fortnightly tomorrow on a sub basis.

Just wondering if anyone else is in on the act.

British Rail! What decade are you in?

I do a few stations and they are very good and fast payers normally within two - three weeks of invoice.

Used to do windows on a pub on Kings cross station and another on St pancras station, every Saturday morning, each job only took 30mins each but we used to be on each station for about 1 and  1/2 hours due to red tape and waiting to be booked in and out. What a pain waiting around was but we got paid for all the time we were there.

You'd have a job seeing as British Rail disappeared 15 years ago!

Not true BR still exists in one form - Between 1994 and 1997, British Rail was privatised.  Ownership of the track and infrastructure passed to Railtrack; passenger operations were franchised to individual private-sector operators (originally there were 25 franchises); and the freight services sold outright (six companies were set up, but five of these were sold to the same buyer). The remaining obligations of British Rail were transferred to BRB (Residuary) Ltd. There are a lot of redundant stuctures around the country (Eg viaducts on closed lines) that no one wanted to take responsibilty for - they managed to offload a lot but still to this day there are assets owned by BR!

(although of course in the case of the stations named Squeeks is right as they ceased to be owned and operated by BR long ago.)

I thought anything left BR became Railtrack (who also now don't exist)

The assets given to Railtrack were in the main  the track, building etc that made up the operational railway. What the BRB own these days are things such as the trackbeds of long closed lines and associated works. These assets are pretty much worthless costing rather than making money hence why when they sold everything else there were no takers for these so called assets which were (and still are) costly liabilities. A little known fact is that even to this day BRB recieves government money to fund the upkeep of these assets.
