it may seem like that if you do an lets say for eg. £100 and he pays you say well whatever. but then he needs to pay insurance,fuel, bank charges, the list goes on and on so once you take all that into account he may be telling the truth

so doesnt he need to pay insurances and fuel etc and remember he needs to make a profit as well or its pointless employing. you get a job with none of the hassle he has and he gets profit

thats true and i would probably do the same unless the work he wants to buy is really bad and no where near the rest of my customer base, then i might sell

There is no way I'd sell my customers to any of my guys.

Speak to him there is perhaps a franchise deal to be had.....

This is perhaps a better proposal than:

"Excuse me, I know you have given me a job, trained me up and helped me out but I'm thinking about setting up in direct competition against you, fancy giving me a hand to start up?"

This is the same guy who no doubt carried on paying you in January despite the fact that no ****er could clean any chuffing windows 'cause it was too chuffing cold.

Now the chuffing suns come out you decide "oh cheers for that I'm off now, gizza hand to set up against you will you?"

I don't know about every one else but if i was your boss i would have got you to sign a contract of employment with a no compete clause in it.

Contract with a barring clause to keep him out of the area for a reasonable time after he left. If it was done rite upfront.
The better way would be to, if he was good and a reliable sort that could be a threat to your business help set him up as a partner in a branch of your business. But make him work for the privilege
Question him about him knowledge of business and put the fear of God into him with questions and doughty. Ask him does think him he will never survive in these times with out my support..
Just a after thought He might think his bosss is on this forum?
