Big company undercutters
« on: April 06, 2010, 07:18:05 pm »
Has anyone heard of or had any dealings with City Contract Cleaning from Cardiff?

I only ask because today I went to a regular £20 commercial job and the girl there said "Here, you can have this, I don't need it"...

It was a posh colour flyer from the company in question (which is 30 miles away) with a written quote of £5!
She laughed it off and would rather have someone local she knows and trusts, and has had for 10 years.

Why would any big successful company want to price something so daft?
It's a 20-25 minute job, so you could get cheaper, but £5? Come on! ;D

I dont know what you do for £20, might be inside & out, so they may say its for outsides only, probly only do a fraction of the work required, or none at all, and just send invoice.
Been going on for years, and probably never stop

May have been less windows, but still seriously cheap.

I wouldn't have lost that one whatever, but if they'd quoted £15 it may get some people enquiring, but that's so low it's suspicious.

I recently quoted a number of argos stores to a co in wales.
I worked out that between me a friend and my brother we could do 35 of them as we all live different areas.
I put some prices together only for them to say they wanted to pay £7 a store and that's inside and out.
Laugh?I nearly bought a round.

But when I wrote about it on here some guy said he did quite a few stores for them at those prices and it worked ok for him. Must be chasing his tail for not much money but that's up to him I suppose.
So yes it can be done, all the time there are people willing to do it for them for silly money.
Personally I would rather work less for more money! and so far that works fine
 ;D ;D ;D

All the subby work offered to me has been for peanuts.
Turned it down, why work for less, it don't make sence to me.

They can have it & keep it as far as I'm concerned.

Like sparklebright, my idea of good business is to work less time for more money. ;)

Let the big boys fight over the scraps! ;D ;D

£7.00 a pop

I could make a £million out of £7.00 a pop.

In fact I have some retail at £3.00 and still make a packet.

Depends what you regard as a "packet", don't think it will be the same as mine. ;)

Only Joking

Retail is getting ultra competative, you wouldnt believe some of the prices, but no matter how low, there is always someone who will do it.

;D sometimes but not often i like this forum, everybody slates the big guys and their prices and the little guy wants to get bigger, but at some point the little guy becomes big and his prices become smaller ;D

sounds like normal business to me and its good to hear the side of the guys that have made it

I'm 6'7" Dave, so seeing that you're at that time of life where you're actually shrinking I think it unlikely. ;) :-*
