Help with red hat diving backpack
« on: April 04, 2010, 05:45:59 pm »
Hi, wondered if anyone could help with the above backpack.

My stepson purchased the above backpack about 3 weeks ago and all worked well for about a week and a half when it just stopped working.

We took the tank off and are no obvious connectors of, the battery charger when  connected shows the battery is charged as the green light goes on straight away, so we took the battery out and tryed it on my Halfords intellegent charger ( quite a popular 1 on this site ) and that confirmed the battery was indeed charged

We then by accident realised with the charger plugged in it worked, unfortuatly when we unplugged it it stopped to.

The fuse is still ok and are now pulling our hair out to what could be wrong.

Hope i've explained it well and if anyone could suggest what to try next it would be extremly helpful.

Kind regards  John

It sounds like your battery terminals are not connecting properly as when your charger is on your pump will work of it. Your battery is charged so no power is going to the pump. Try closing the terminals with a sharp nose pliers while connected to the battery as well as cleaning the terminals with some sand paper.

You may find the connections between the switch and the battery are loose. Undo the cover and ensure that all the connectors are secure.
Do all the good you can, and make as little fuss about it as possible.

You seem confused. I sell diving equipment using the brand name Red Hat Diving. I also sell window cleaning equipment.

If the backpack works with the charger plugged in it can only be the leads from the battery to the switch. 2 spades at the battery end, 2 spades at the switch ends and a fuse. I have known one of these have a broken spade which was held together by the plastic sleeve. But whatever it is it shouldnt be hard to diagnose and fix.
