re new building site approaching w/c work
« on: July 28, 2005, 02:54:03 pm »
HOW,WHAT,WHEN Is the best time to approach new buildings for work on sites.
When people move in ,sales desk and hand them some flyers to give to people who are moving in or what?
Has anybody on the forum cracked the code of getting on to newly built houses on sites

I made friends with the site show home manager.

We did the windows for a reduced rate, and she told new owners that I was the window cleaner.

We got most of the estate that way, and to this date, no-one has been able to set up properly in this area.

I've done the same.  Cleaned the show home a bit cheaper, get in with the sales office staff, they usually have a welcome package they give new home owners, print a nice flyer they'll put it in the welcome pack telling the new owners you are the windowcleaner for them!  It's worked for me a few times.

PJ. & Bear.

That's a brilliant idea!!

I too went round a new housing estate on Monday but they have so far only just opened the show house & i was wondering how to approach them.

You've given me a solution to the problem--thanks for that.

Ray----(Gaza i hope were not both thinking of the same site)

I agree with the above postings I have done the same thing myself.
I try and get on before the show house is open to talk to the foreman or builders agent. You can ask him who you should contact about cleaning the showhouse. If no showhouse is to be built ask about the first cleans. One tip, wear a hard hat when you go on site, it impresses the foreman and shows him how safety concious you are.
I do 90%of the houses on an estate that keeps me busy for 6 to7 days a month. I gave every new customer the first clean free as a welcome aboard token. It creates a phsycological obligation. I was working on the site for 3 years before building work finshed. No joke with all the dust and white pvc. Worth it in the end though. Dai

Gaza.

Chilwell Barracks!

It's quite a big estate now--have'nt canvassed that area at all.

You know what i'm like--it's to far for me--right over the border.

i'm canvassing a bit closer than that.

Anyway hope you do well there after the bad luck you've had recently

Regards Ray. (the missus say's i can stay up a bit later tonight)

Don't delay one more day.

Good posts!

Go now.  There is always someone in charge who can at least give you a good recommendation.  Eventually you will speak to the person who will hire you!
