Website Promotion
« on: April 03, 2010, 03:36:23 pm »
Hi, most of us on here have websites but how many of us are linked to other websites? From reading this http://www.submitexpress.com/linkpop/ you will see the more pages you are linked to the higher up search engine rankings you will get. Try putting your own web address in that free link and see how many you are linked to, then if you want to be linked to mine and vice versa get in touch. John
By the way I dont want you to link to my cleaning site but to my g/f clothing site
www.fashionbyfox.co.uk shes just starting out and needs to get up the rankings.

Many thanks i hope you understood what i am getting at.... ::)

It dosnt matter what type of website it is, the point is that the more your website is linked to other websites (of any type) the more a search engine such as google etc will pick up on it and increase your position on there search pages.
So if you have no links to outside webpages you rank lower than someone who has links to loads of sites (of any kind), I hope you can understand what Im getting at.

so you are saying that any website that has a link on it to another website will be penalised?? I dont think so.

Taken From
http://www.submitexpress.com/linkpop/

Link Popularity Check Tool

How popular is your website? This tool will show you how many other sites are linking to you. Most search engines use this data to calculate how popular your website is. The more links to you, the better your search engine rankings will be. You can even provide some competitors' URLs to compare your site to theirs.

Blimey they will be penalised now there links on this site :P

The links need to be relevant, so carpet cleaners linking to window cleaners and domestic cleaners are good, but carpet cleaners linking to fashion websites wont  ;)

I am NO website expert and it bores me but "have google ever published the rules they use" algorisms or whatever they called them. There's more than one search engine also - do they use the same rule book ?

BDCS' missus - It is a mixture of links, keywords, relevant content, meta tags etc. There is very little content on the website!!!

John,

I mean this in the nicest possible way... do you know what you are doing?

Be careful with link companies. The only people likely to link to a brand new site are likely to be dodgy or desperate.

A site will NEVER be penalised for an incoming irrelevant link (the link may not be given as much weight as others though). The reason is that the system would be totally open to abuse (eg. start a child porn site, then link to your cleaning competitors and watch them plummet!).

The problem starts when you link out because you are deemed to have control. If you link OUT to a bad one you will suffer. If you start getting involved with link schemes and companies, you'd better check out any site thoroughly before you exchange links. One duff one and you are down the pan.

You can start by getting rid of the outgoing links on your homepage. They are hurting you (ever so slightly).

As the poster before said, get some more content (descriptions etc) onto your site.

Dave, you've got one coming in from a wine rack store in the USA but I cannot see you being penalised for it. It certainly has not done you any harm.

Garry

Hi Garry as you probabley guessed i dont have a clue whne in comes to links and stuff, but after listening to what people say about it on here i will give linking a miss, trouble is how the hell do you promote a website? If you look at the site http://www.submitexpress.com/linkpop/ and put a competitors web addrsess in there you can see how many popularity links they have I treid one for a t shirt company called 8ball and they have over 45000 links, surley they all cant be to sites related to clothes if they are how do you do it???

Hi linking is important to get you a higher ranking, have you submitted your website to search engines, a good tool for the job is hello engines I have submitted my website www.eastdevonwheelieclean.co.uk using it and I have one very good link with one other site and using google if you search for wheelie bin cleaning east devon or sidmouth my ranking is in the top 5.  The important thing is have a good site that search spiders can index, having revalent wording, meta tags, key words.  But as i say get a good submission software like hello engines.  Or does your service provider have any submission software.....

Hi angleside, i have submitted it to search engines and will have a look at the one you mentioned, the host we are using lets you do all the keyword meta tag stuff easily for you. They will do  promotion for you aswell for $99 but when I asked them about it they recommended using google adwords as a better alternative, due to the fact that its such an overcrowded market. To be honest shes selling more at weekend markets and through people we know than on ebay or the internet its just handy when people buy at a market from you that they can order more from the web, we have done some for a band called "he will be silenced" if you look them up on youtube I think we should have done the shirts saying "they should be silenced" or am i getting old.....
Am on the t-shirt forums but thanks to everyone on here and good luck with the cleaning, I might have a large water tank for sale soon as am just going to cherry pick jobs on the drive cleaning as getting fed up with being cold and wet, also a citroen relay van 07 plate with 28500 on the clock if anyones interested.
