Dont use bungees, I know of a Window Cleaner who lost an eye because of using them!!

We use ladder clamps, much safer.

Hi Marc.

Yes i've got a car with proper Ford roof bars that fit across the width of the car
as apposed to the ones that run along the length.

Being a midget i have to open the door & stand on the door sill to gain height to do & undo the ladder clamps.

Went to Halfords today.

Bought some quick release straps made by Thule.

They seem to be what i've been looking for---ladders on & off in a
matter of seconds.

No problem Ray.  Just make sure that you check those spring clips from time to time as they can occasionally lose their spring.  This would allow the strap to pull through while driving possibly.  I've never had it happen yet as there seems to be plenty of warning when they are on their way out.  I've only ever had to ditch one - and that was after many years of use.  If you want to be totally safe on this, maybe put two straps around the front end ( the end that's more likely to lift up in the very unlikely event of the clip failing).
Also, I tend to push the surplus strap length into the hollow of a rung as it saves tying it up.

I would like to just mention before this matter closes i was talking to w/c today who forgot to tie his ladders on before he left .........going down the road at speed they flew off luckily he only hit the back of his spoiler it could have been fatal.
so whatever you tie your ladders on with just make sure theyre secure
