Very serious question. What do you reckon to this?
« on: July 23, 2005, 05:26:56 pm »
Hi Guys + Gals  ;)

We were driving through our estate earlier today and saw this window cleaner walking up the porch roof to clean the windows above. Look how steep the roof is. :o :-\

Photo has now been removed

Looked a bit scary to me, not sure our insurance company would be happy if we did it.  :o

What do you reckon?

Is this covered by any guidlines?

I love things like that... you can charge Hazard Pay.

If that scares you, I don't think you could stomach what I did for snow removal in Upstate New York!   :)

I do walk up some roofs but not a gradient that steep.  Those windows would be an extension pole job for me

I sometimes do that, but I don't take the micky by blowing huge bubble gum bubbles while preparing to climb down - it's just not right :)

;D Excellent!

If not the gutters, probably on the ends of the tiles taking chunks out of it!

Frankly, I'm shocked.  He doesn't even have a bucket of clean water, how is he going to wash those windows properly!!
just as well you were there HUPS or is it UPHS or HUPHS....anyway.  I don't mind promoting safe standards, but I don't like subliminal advertising of any kind.
So make your picture clearer for us all and we may take notice.
know what I mean?

Why would you need a bucket of clean water to do 2 windows?  Get you washer wet, put it in your BOAB, climb up and hit the 2 windows, go back down.

Or am I missing the point again?

[It's a photo-shopped picture of a left hand drive van from the US.  Not actually UPHS van at all.
:o

It is now  ;) :)

Sorry to take the mick Mick.  The guy on the roof is taking a risk.  If you took the photo, surely you could have cleaned the window for him!
But why does the owner's car have a hedge growing on it's roof?

Gaza.  I hadn't looked closely and so I didn't notice that they were leaded until you mentioned it.  However, I do pole leaded windows if they are nearly flush with the glass and there is no other way of doing it.  What I do is to rinse all the detergent(or as much as possible) out of the applicator sleeve and put a layer of water on the window.  Then I take it off with the squeegee rubber.  On these sort of leaded windows, it is important to put a lot of pressure when blading the water off so that the rubber can actually touch the glass.  Also, it helps if you move the rubber blade more slowly than usual. Doing both those things helps to get as much liquid off the glass as possible.  Also, the lack of detergent helps to cut down the smears. I acknowledge that the finish is far from perfect but it is a lot better than I expected it to be before first trying it.  It is also a lot better than no clean at all.  It is definitely a lot better than breaking my neck.

I would put the ladder to the right of the porch roof against the house wall and step onto the roof to my left, holding onto the gutter soffits for extra support.

If the roof was wet I would miss it out.

Now I've got a wfp! Happy Days!
It's a game of three halves!
