sub contract office cleaning - how much do i charge?
« on: March 31, 2010, 10:54:58 am »
been asked to do the daily cleaning at a large furniture store by a cleaning company based over 150 miles away.

know they could just employ some local kid from a paper ad etc...

want the job but not sure what to charge - in my head im thinking they could just employ some local kid at £7 per hour but i normally charge £10 - £12.

im worried they are prob charging the same as me and will want to make a profit and wont pay my charge.

hope that all makes sense

If I was in that situation, I would charge my normal rate and if they did not accept, no problem.  They want to sub it out instead of hiring is because then they do not have to worry about managing the place either.  If they hire at 7.00 then they will have to manage it and supply equipment and chemicals.  If the sub it then they just have to invoice it.  If you really want the work, go in just a little under what you would normally charge so that it leaves room for them to make a few quid for doing the invoicing.  Just remember that if you take on a job you will be in it for a while and ties up your time for when you do get the job that would pay your rates.

If I was bidding it I would be going in aroun 575 - 600 per month for 13 hours per week.  If you could get someone in for minimum wage you could make a decent margin (depending on equipment needed and amount of chemical required) at about 9 per hour and if you include holidays that would come to about 550 a month.  To be serious though, I would not do it at that price.  Now keep in mind that I dont have all the information such as, is it expected to work bank holidays.  With a furniture store this could be the case.  In that case you need to add extra in as you will have to pay extra or give up the days in lieu to cover these.  If you go in at this low of a price, make sure you have everything included in your numbers or you will be in the red on this one.
