Do you use your porty outside
« on: March 29, 2010, 09:42:59 pm »
Power-flite state you can't use their porty outside or in the rain. I'v been using my porty outside for years in winter and summer. You just can't get a porty in every house, over every doorstep.

For those with a porty how do you use yours guys.

Outside at least 50' hose. If it's hissing down and I can get close enough it sits on the van. Even with twins there's really no need to take them indoors.

I wouldnt advise that anyone leaves their portable outside in the rain unless you cover it with a plasic sheet.  Even if the supplier said its ok to leave it in the rain with it running NO WAY would i do that.

If you run it from a van in the rain,is it still safe having your 240v cables running across a garden/pavement,i'd feel a bit uneasy about it.

The "Insulating" plastic/rubber  around the cable should "Insulate" the bare wires within and protect it from water/moisture..... As long as vulnerable part off the cable (at the plug) isn't open to the elements you should be safe. Backed up with a decent RCCD unit, you're as safe as houses ;)

Inside 100% of the time. Never been to a property in 7 years of trading where I wasn't able to get the porty in. All except upstairs flats however, I refuse to do them.

Mine's inside most of the time but I can see the benefit (weather permitting) of leaving it outside, noise etc..  and double hosing ;)

I've only just started using mine from the back of the van after seeing Clinton's piccys and my life is so much easier... I can't see that there's any down side to doing so and I can't believe it's taken me so long to get round to doing it that way ???

Obviously there will be times when this isn't possible, I'll worry about that when the time comes, but it'll be no major drama ;D

If I ever used to take a porty inside it would only be stood in the doorway with the exhaust pointing outside, e.g. terraced street with door straight on to pavement.

Otherwise, I normally used to pull it right up to the door, and 50ft of hose will reach all round most houses.

Outside the door 80% of the time, as someone said you
can reach most areas of domestic with the 50 foot.
Just a pain putting it away.
First one today hose went through open window.

Outside when necessary. If raining or looking like then cover with a heavy duty clear tarp.
