Had my Trafic, a pre-registered 54 from April 2005 it had done 80 miles, now on 55,000 and no probs (touch wood).
Replaced back door lock at 20,000 replaced brake pads at 38,000 and replaced belts at 52,000 cos it was 5 years old then.

Some good uns and some bad uns. Though I must admit I was worried too when I first bought it.

I love my trafic, just been through mot and it needed 2 tyres,
It was recently in a accident and I got a brand new transit while mine being fixed, I couldnt stand the thing, I saw a 2 year old transit the other weekend and I couldnt believe the rust, All vans have there problems hers a few posts I just found on a transit review site.

why are these vans not undersealed as standard? my van is washed nearly every week, unfortunately the sills and arches, front and rear are rusting! new gearbox at 56k, new drive shafts76k ,engine mounts, power steering pump 100k.
on the plus, great load space, copes well with a heavy load, fuel economy is very good, turning circle is unbelievable, you can spin on a sixpence.

Ford Transit 260 SWB 1998 LWB Mid roof 2.5 diesel turbo Van. Cheaply made and engineered to fail prematurely by use of sub-standard parts. Have spent £5k in repairs and replacements in the last 4 1/2 years and the van is only 10 years old!!! I have never had so much fail in a vehicle before in 35 years of driving. Ford customer service? What is that? Why are Ford allowed to sell these?

I bought a Ford Transit 260 SWB with 100000 miles on the clock, and a week after the fuel pump went at the cost of £1200. 18 months later and less than 10,000 miles same thing happened again. Seemingly the pump has a guarantee period of 12 months. The pump was fitted at one of Fords main dealers didn't seem to be interested. I phoned Ford customer service, and I found them also not to be very interested. The funny thing is they would have done something about it had the van been you ...

Ford Transit 260 75ps
Do yourself a favour and stay away from this model!
Ford used to make good reliable vans. What happened? They now appear to be, well, a bit troublesome and very badly finished. Its not as if I have just been unfortunate as I know courier drivers whos transits have all suffered from the majority of the aforementioned faults. Well ITS SPRINTER TIME FOR ME.In my opinion If you value your business stay well clear of it.

After owning a Ford Transit 260 for just over a year I have gone from running a fairly successful business to being almost bankrupt due to it constantly being in the workshop. The main dealers quality of work is poor, Ford customer relationship centre is a joke. Take my advice and steer well clear of any Ford vehicle.

Having driven transits in various guises for years, I have had a "y" plate and an "03" plate Ford Transit 260 75bhp SWB Van and I am thoroughly un-impressed. Both vans had to have brake discs fitted every 30k, the y plate had the n/s/r hub fall off completely at 82k,it needed an alternator by 85k and the central locking "plip" was un-reliable. My 03 reg van has 33,500 miles and is seldom out of the dealer. Again discs by 20k, loss of power due to chafed under-bonnet wiring, a dubious rattle from ...

bloody hell you have owned loads of transits looking at what you posted there, youve had a good few problems as well, i would of stayed away after the first one but you just went back for more, take my advice next time and get a trafic, there the best thing to come out of france since gerrard houlier (well that was till he had the heart attack and then lost the plot totally) ;D

As a mechanic for 15 years and half of that spent working on French cars/vans i can safely say that all vans have there problems!!!! I must admit i never enjoyed woking on Renaults but as a whole they are decent vans as long as they have been and are looked after!!!!

At the end of the day you cant go wrong for that sort of money for a van of that size!!! If you do ever get any probs i am more than happy to answer any questions if i can ;)

Cheers
Alan

Had a swb high roof years ago, think it was a L reg, never had many problems and it was nice and low to the ground so getting in and out is good, only thing i didnt like was the pedals were very close together, new ones look nice though.
