Backpacks?
« on: March 08, 2010, 08:53:02 pm »
Hi. Me and my brother are starting out WC. (He posted on here the other day)

I was just wondering instead of starting out traditional, maybe it'll be easier to jump in and go with the wfp systerm from the start.

After reading things on this site I think the cheapest wfp option is using a backpack.

However, I have no idea about them. Which one is recommended? And then what pole would we need? And how do we go about using pure water?

Any help and insight would be appreciated.

Thanks.

i went trad at the beginning even though i had all of my kit. i gave it one year before i fitted it all into my van and glad i did tbh. Read on here loads of threads to get some good info. Decide what you want to do etc and what questions to ask.

Also use the search function to get some more info.

if using backpack what is tds around you area? how you gonna purify the water etc etc

Maybe I'm a bit thick, but I've tried to find the DIY wfp page by Matt and I'm struggling. I clicked on the tab that says search at the top of this page and put in DIY wfp and i couldn't find it. Cheers, Rob

Cheers for that Tosh - i found the site and I'll have a look around and register later, after I've had my dinner.

Couldn't see any off-topic page though - I think I'm gonna have to take my conact lenses out and give them a scrub with my wfp!

I'm not sure about the tds in my area. Any ideas where I can get a tds meter from? Do I have to get an expensive one?

If the tds reading is low, can I just use the water without anything else added?

What is the resin for?

If I do need to purify the water, what is the cheapest way to do it?
(we don't have loads of customers yet, so I wouldn't need a big set up)

Would I just need the backpack, pole and some water containers? (not including the pure water set up if needed)

This is the back pack that someone posted so I know this is ok. But what about the pole below, anyone have any experience with that? It's 17ft and that length would be fine for now.

Sorry for all the questions. I have read loads of posts on here, I'm just making sure i understand everything.

Also I ain't very good at DIY  :'(

if u let us know what area u live .someone on here who lives nearby will tell u what your tds is .but u will need a tds meter to keep a check on ur water .to keep it at 00..tds meter bout £15.that is the first bit of wfp kit i bought..u will need something to store the water in .i use water butts from bout £20 each .then transfer it to 20ltr barrels n put them in van .or car when u find out what ur tds is we can work out what u need to purify water .

its not really barry island, its in barry

its the turning opposite "DOW CORNING"

drive down the link road from Wenvoe and drive past McD's, then turn right and you will see down corning, then turn right at the lights, just up the road

We didn't go today to the warehouse today. But I found this earlier and was wondering if this is what I'm looking for? We live in a soft water area. Hope this makes sense.
