I carry about 75 rags of all descriptions.  There are many different quality scrim.
I wash all mine, after I've used them to the full.  Full wash, very little soap but hot wash.  Seems to work, keeps the lint down but it does vary, depending on what quality scrim U use. 
I get bewildered, so many types.  All we want is something that leaves the window gleaming.
What do you think?

I use used huck towels.  Cheap and lint free.

Some rave over microfibre.

We use scrims, microfibre and I have a chamois.

The scrims we used for the sills, frames or anything.

The microfibres the other two use for detailing.

I use the chamois for detailing.

We have 45 scrims and about 20 microfibres.

During the week I just dry all the cloths but every Sunday I wash the whole lot and I don't add soap powder because I reckon there's enough detergent on them already.

i use unger large mirowipes now instead of a dry scrim. on leads and clothing windows i spray first with car screen wash then dry off with microwipes. when windows are not too dirty i do them this way instead of squegee, quicker as no wiping up or detailing.

Hi, hi bought a micro fibre, which took a bit of time to get used to as i have been using a scrim, but it does say ok to tumble dry but no fabric conditioner, anybody no why???

I think that fabric conditioner is not recommended for the same reason that it's not used on domestic towels; it makes them all soft and lovely, but they lose their absorbancy.

Perhaps if one of our contributors is an Industrial Chemist type, you might get the scientific reason.

Thanks for the info you guys.  I'll try these micro fibres.
 Leaded lights are a pain ain't they, especially old ones where lead sticks out about 1/4 inch on each little panel.
I don't use fabric conditioner on anything I use, it creates loads of lint.
My lad decided to pre wash all his grade A brand new scrims a while back, about 20 of them, his 3 year old daughter tipped a bottle of fabric cleaner in the soap compartment, destroyed the scrims for window cleaning in one go! 
Oh well monday morning here we come.

Unfortunately, this has happened to mine in the wash, without realising what was in there, softener was added 
Yes, the do go all soft and fluffy, and yes they do loose there absorbancy, but also when I tried to use them after, I found that small pieces of fibre where coming off the cloth, especially when the cloth came into contact with dry glass. It was almost as if the cloth was actually breaking up!
They've since been through several more washes, and are getting better, but I'm still getting fibre loss, which is not good at all for leaded windows!
So you've been warned!

I agree about the micro fibres, take a bit of getting used too but I use them more now.  I fine the scrim is better for the leaded windows but they are still a pain. 

After reading this lot im going to buy a few more clothes and scrims etc and stick them in the wash together without any Fabric Softener, I had noticed that some of the clother were losing bits but didn't put it down to my washing.  I'll see what happens.
