Hi just changed to wfp system  last week, i told one of my customers that i had changed  because  of
H & S.  as  soon you will not get any insurance for ladder work on your own,  he then said to me will the window cleaner next door be changing  from the trad window cleaning,  i know he will not, my question is=  what can i  say next time  i go?

"I cannot speak for all window cleaners, but my reading of health and safety legislation makes it clear that to use ladders when there is a safer method available will mean that I am putting myself at unnecessary risk.

To do this may well invalidate my insurance and should I fall while on someone's property then this could be difficult for the householder too.

If another window cleaner and householder are willing to take chances then that is up to them but I believe the responsible thing to do is comply with the legislation as I see it."

If you think that is a "bit wordy" then try this:-

"Dunno mate! Ask 'im and if 'ees dumb enough to use ladders then that's his funeral!"

 ;D
It's a game of three halves!

don't sell it on h/s alone i never do IMO its a better more thorough way to clean windows.
tell them you will be cleaning frame work sills and all doors as standard.
tell them that the windows will stay cleaner for longer.
babs you need to do some more research!

ok your in a catch 22 here. youve quoted h&S, so go get the relevant paragraph to back it up and tell them you are complying and if he chooses not to its his call.

personally i dont use the h&s spiel

i think the problem of changing over is in our minds,  most custy dont care, and the ones that complain are usually the pains any way, i have only lost one job bcause it left the windows wet, she was a pain, allways moaning that the windows wearnt perfect with trad, she had a stupid lean to built that u cant get to the windows above,  so went to wfp and moan they wasnt clean, so cleaned them again and the she moaned they where wet, and not to do them, ok i said and walked off,  i think she was expecting me to beg not to lose the job

i think a lot of wc slag off wfp  to there custys  then realsie they have to go on it and dont want to look stupid in front of there custys

But cleaners have been telling customers that so as to sell it two them, now they are seeing this for themselves and some customers are opting for every other month ie:8 weekly.
thats why i have started the dial-a-clean options!

Babs2020 do what i did and make a dvd of you washing windows, gutters facias etc: with the wfp put before and after shots so as they can see the difference explain h&s  and anything you want on it give it to the customer to watch tell them you will collect it on you next clean make a few copies its better than trying to explain it or giving them leaflets  to them as some will never understand they will have a better understanding of it by watching the dvd you only want it to be about 5mins long any longer and they will get bored of it and not bother to watch all the way through.

I would play the insurance card. I know there's no problem with third party liability, but personal accident is a different matter.
I was with AXA for 12 years, it was a policy that paid £200 a week if I was off after an accident, not much I know, but it would help keep the wolf from the door.
They pulled the plug on me 3 years ago, [I was already WFP] saying they would no longer insure window cleaners.
The trad guy may have third party cover, but there's a good chance he hasn't got personal accident cover, so ask them what would happen if you had an accident.

The most important thing for the customer is "What's in it for me?" and that's what you need to get across rather than how it benefits you.
