Starting a new window cleaning business.
« on: February 19, 2010, 01:24:22 pm »
Hi, this is my first time on this site and i have been sitting for hours reading through peoples comments on here and find it quite interesting, the thing is ive been working for a bloke for coming up 7 years now window cleaning had the reach and wash for nearly 3 years and im a dab hand at it. i want to start my own business because i dont get paid enough and the man is starting to get on my nerves when he says he's not making enough when i know he DOES!

so.... im  in the process of getting a grant from the enterprise agency but i need to give them qoutes for the system and van etc but i dont know the best places to go for a system.
im in the north east.
I only want a small van because i'll be working on my own. something like a combo a something similar. Can any of you recommend some cheap but reliable systems and sites where i can go and get quotes from?

Much appreciated Andy

Google "Water fed pole Window Cleaning"  there's hundreds of them out there.

Then do a search on this site, there's loads of advice.

What system do you use at the mo'? If you like it then why not get one the same?
It's a game of three halves!

Don't make the mistake of buying a system that's too small; you'll regret it in the long run.

I would definately go for a 600l tank straight away - we fix ours into Transit Vans - you'll never run out of water and it gives you the option of having a secong person working should the need arise later on.

Good luck ;D

Before spending your cash buy a backpack and a supply of 25litre plastic drums that you can store in your van/car. Once you are up and going , invest in a more sophisticated system.  Walk before you can run!

You can of course buy secondhand - there are lots of complete systems advertised in this forum.

Andy,

The North East's a big place, where abouts are you within it?

Good luck to you. What does your employer pay you gross per day at the moment and what monetary target are you set/given each day to achieve your pay?

My boss bought his system from a place called stream and it was quite expensive and i reckon there are far more cheaper systems out there than that one. I'll keep looking anyway.  Thanks

Andy, do a google for Matt's DIY WFP site (Google DIY WFP) and he has a brilliant website for knocking one up at a fraction of the cost.

good advice from the master there andy ;)

have a look at this as well

i started in october put few adds on this site got poles tanks hoses  for about 200 quid spent another 200 on pump battery controller brushes and fittings from a couple of shops on ebay and another 100 on a backpack
brought a berlingo with a years ticket for 400 quid 10000 leaflets for 100
basically i was running in a week for less than £1000
my advice would be keep your job and run your own business alongside until you establish a client base your boss may be a pain but you still need a income
use him until the time comes  to go on your own
