Gutter cleaning equipment
« on: February 15, 2010, 08:47:22 pm »
Hello,i was just needing some advice on a general pressure washing system for cleaning the gutters and exterior plastics.
I was only needing to do small domestics,no commercial stuff, and was wondering if the petrol pressure washer as shown would be good enough as a starter unit.
It will probably be used for about 6 hours per week along with an extendable lance....
As i say this is just a starter unit (funds really dictate that) and will upgrade later if need be.At the moment i currently clean gutters out from the ladder and pole the rest using tfr to break down the grime and then finish with water from a wfp system.

it looks fine just make sure that you can ajust the pressure, because at full pressure it will be tricky to keep your lance in the right place. also it will spray the crap in the gutter all over the place and maybe go over the windows  frames etc.,

Nothing wrong with that pressure washer it does the Job  and does it well, it comes with five jets but the main ones you will use on it is the black one for applying your detergents and the white one for cleaning
Take a look at my video and that is the pressure washer in use.

Cheers Jeff..that is exactly what i was after.
The pressure washer from northern tools is not adjustable pressure so is this a problem if you use the low pressure nozzle.....
Also on domestics will you get water ingress under the soffits/fascias ?
Sorry for all the questions....

No it doesn't have adjustable pressure but watch the video and I tell and show you to stand back to reduce the pressure.
The black one is useless for any thing apart from applying your detergent, once you applied your detergent use the white Jet  for normal cleaning and the yellow one for heavy duty cleaning but be very careful with the yellow one it can strip off paint.

This is a question asked by all newcomers to the lance regarding water ingress into the roof space but I'll be very honest, I have never had that problem or at least never any complaints and I also do my own and checked the roof space after and its always was bone dry, Don't direct the jet into the vents but if you have to then stand underneath because the soffit overhangs a house and any water sprayed into the soffit will not go into the roof space but Just like any Job be aware of your work procedure and you'll be fine.
Take care with the round disk type vents because if your not careful you can dislodge them and you have the fun of putting them back in, if it ever does happen then a small piece of a used bar of soap stuck to the back of your brush, stick the vent onto the soap and stick the vent back into the hole but its best to avoid blowing them out in the first place. I use Ecover available from Gardiners for my detergent its a little more expensive  but I can't get accused of killing plants or killing fish in ponds or the little dog in the custies back garden.

The bar of soap or should I say a little used piece of soap, is used if you blow a circular vent out of the soffit, How else can you get it back in place if its above a conservatory roof??  Wet the soap and squash it onto the back of your brush put the vent onto the soap and place the vent back into place.
