Your worst ever job
« on: February 13, 2010, 08:13:08 am »
Interested to hear your worst ever job. I'm sure it will eclipse mine.
I did a sub job for a local maintenance firm at Harrods......Sounds glamorous?

It had to be done on a Sunday, Security had the hump with all these contractors and
acted like the gestapo. :o You then had to go to your area and stay put, all the time watched by cameras. I was on the third floor doing a designer shoe section. Of course the only service lift was being used by other contractors.

The only loo unlocked was a luxury version with a pound slot one on the next floor. So I started
HWE cleaning after 5 mins the vacs were making that familiar sound. Oh crap foam everywhere.
The carpets had been shampood to kingdom come.

I gallon of defoamer later......They looked patchy and horrible but thankfully settled down.

Never again  ::)    Paul

Ive had a few nightmare jobs.  about 15 years ago we drove to London to clean a nightclub and had been cleaning the carpet for nearly a hour with a Prochem Perfomer 800A Truckmount.  Someone came running into the club shouting 'YOUR VAN IS ON FIRE'.....Immediately we just thought it was foam from the waste tank coming from the exhaust at front of machine so we casually walked out the ckub to the van.  OMG, the street which was quite narrow was filled with smoke andthere was sparks shouting out from the exhaust.  Shut the machine down and went back to the ofice for the guy we worked for at the time to take a look at the truckmount.  Had to have a new blower on it.  Following week we went back to London to complete the night club carpets.  Set up all the hoses got everything ready.  Tried to start the machine and NOTHING. Spent a hour trying to get it to start with no joy.  Packed away drove back to Birmingham for the gaffer to have a look at it.  He opened the side door of the van turned the key and the bloody thing started straight away  ???  Never did know what had happened.  Anyway we managed to finally get the carpets cleaned a few days later.  So a job that should have taken a total of 4 hours driving turned into 12 hours driving, instead of a round trip of 260 miles that became 780 miles, onsite instead of around 8 hours we were there about 15 hours.

Richie.
