Useless tax office
« on: January 28, 2010, 08:49:21 pm »
I've long since submitted my tax, but haven't paid it yet.
The reason being I need to phone them to ask what I have to pay, because i've got money on account to come off from last year...

Do you think I can get through? Useless. I've been trying for a week or so.
About 10 monkeys manning an office with hundreds of calls. ::)

So...if I just go and pay what i know is more than it'll be, that'll be ok won't it?
The thieving lot won't nick it and say thanks will they?
I'd rather hope I get a thankyou and confirmation that I'm in credit by some amount...

That'll be okay Squeaks, the fact that youve submitted your return is the important bit to avoid being fined.

You will just get charged a few quid interest.

Maybe next year you will be a bit quicker off the mark, mine was sorted months ago.

No, you don't understand.

I've got enough now, and I'll pay before then.
I was just pointing out how hopeless it was to get through and find out what i owed.
And if it was alright to just pay an amount that's definitely more.

From previous years i know people who wanted to pay last minute and couldnt because of the system, I didnt read your post properly, but anyhow I was saying no need to worry either way.

I would be inclined to underpay slightly if it was me, but thats not to say I am advising you to do that.

But surely if I did that I'd be fined?  ???

If I overpay, then surely that's a bit of credit towards next years?

if you have a figure in your head, pay it, yes, if you over pay you will be in credit, you can phone them up and they will repay that credit at any time

when you filled you tax return (if you did it on line)you would have been asked for your bank details so that ony over payment can be paid direct into your bank. This includes any money that you may have paid in account. But that does'nt mean that they will pay it back straight away. Like you have done to them .......... they will do to you ....... make you wait.  ;D

oh and me btw.  ;D ;D
I can remember when waking up stiff in the morning was a good thing.

Squeaky you are fined if you dont put your return in not if you dont pay on time. If you dont pay on time they charge you minimal interest.

Read my initial reply, not being funny mate, but youve had all the answers you need. Pay what you can and you'll be okay, pay the rest when youve earnt it if you havent got it just yet.

SO LONG AS YOUVE PUT YOUR RETURN IN YOU'LL BE OKAY!!!    OKAY??

Yeah, and not being funny mate, but I never once said i couldn't pay!
I've got more than enough. I only wanted to know if I could pay more than I think it is and have that on credit for next year.

Rog

we forgot the July payment once, the first i knew is when they sent me a bill for about £5.00 interest and no fine.

If you have made a payment, i am fairly sure you wont recieve a fine

Yes.  They won't send you anything back unless you ask for it, they'll keep it on credit.

Simples ;)

Slagging HMRC are we!? how hard is it to get through to them, it seems to take an average of 10 minutes on hold before you get to talk to someone
