Use Radar to work smart.
« on: January 16, 2010, 05:22:48 pm »
Following on from a post I made yesterday I thought I would start a thread on the subject,
Over the years I must have lost thousands of pounds due to “bad calls” when it comes to rain.
How many times have you looked at the sky and thought this is in for the day so packed up and gone home, only to find an hour or so later it stops. Then spent the next few hours looking out of the window wondering if it will start again?
I have almost entirely eliminated that problem using up to the minute Radar. I have a phone with internet connection, so it’s available whilst I am out working or I check on the PC
Now I keep a constant check on the radar and plan my day around it if needs be. If it starts to rain I can tell how long it will last and if there is more to follow, that way I can advise my other vans to stay put and have a cuppa till its past, or call it a day and know I made the right choice.
Yesterday it stopped raining at 2 oclock and I could see it was clear sky following so called the lads and we all went out for another couple of hours and pulled in an extra £150. I guarantee we would have written the day off before I started using the radar.
The site I use is  http://www.meteogroup.co.uk/

might be a good idea if uv got lads working for u and extra vans etc,but for me i just size it up when i get up in the morning and take each day as it comes.the local weather is usually hit and miss so i usually dont take much notice of it generally.if its says itll rain at dinnertime often it doesnt arrive til teatime when ive finished! ;)i do work in the rain if its not hammering it down.i also sit in the car for an hour if its heavy showers sometimes but any longer and i get fed up and head off home!

I do this all the time. It's so annoying. I'm gonna look at that. Thanks.

Sounds a good tip jack.

What's the giste of how the ibc heater works?

I've got hot in the van, but do wonder at the best way to keep the storage tank from freezing.
