Go out there and check the icicles.

That amount of frozen water, which expands on freezing, for the amount of time we've had with the volume of excess icicles, hanging over gutters, causing untold damage to the seals and joins.

Ive been out this morning cleaning and most of the gutters have ice in them 3" over the top of the gutter and 2' hanging down; that will cause damage and people will be wanting it sorted.

I'm inclined to agree with Matt, all that extra water washing more crud off roof's and blocking drains up, gutter cleaning is going to increase this year.

So in the past when a customer has called to say their gutters are leaking and they think they need cleaning out you've responded with

'Oh I dont think so madam, from where Im sat Id say they need repairing'

doesnt matter people see drips from gutter and want it clearing

i always do and explain i clear not repair

i have done loads of gutter cleaning jobs because
it has been over flowing according to the customer.

when i get there to quote its normally down to leaks
i check gutters full i tell them and explain the overflowing
they have seen is a leak i tell them i clean but dont repair.

99% of time get the work i do the clean and they make some other
arrangement for repairs.

hopefully matt bateman is spot on with his prediction

And in a few weeks the horror stories will come, customers turning round and saying "they were alright before you went cleaning them out"

They wont understand that mother nature caused the damage, hope you lads are FULLY insured cos I see claims a plenty.

Ok, I'll simplify what I just posted.

The customer 'may'  'try it on' i.e. try claiming off your insurance saying we have caused the damage to the joints/seals/hoppers/downpipes ect.

It would be very hard to prove that you didn't cause the damage.

well y dont you just bung up the downpipe and use a hose to fill it then if you see any leaks you can let the customer know so they are aware it was leaking before!!!

I dont think so mate, not when the recent winter weather has left most gutters in the country with 2' icicles hanging from them and totally full to more than overflowing for a month or more.
