How much loo roll?
« on: January 13, 2010, 08:41:32 pm »
Weird question but we are being asked to price a new office contract for 28 people with 3 toilets and the customer wants us to provide loo roll, kitchen towels, soap bars and soap dispensers for the offices. They are all going to be charged individually to the customer dependant on use but they are keen to know how many we believe they will use so they can factor it into their costs.

Any ideas how many of each of the below 28 people are likely to use on a weekly basis assuming 90% males?

Loo roll
Kitchen towels
Soap bars
Soap dispensing fluid (ml or number of 800ml units)

Thanks

Jase

Hi Jase,

That is very specific.

In general you state a price per box/package/litre. And then you could give an estimated only figure on useage.

Generally the goods are invoiced seperately each month or every 3 months depends on the contract.

For example on loo rolls. you are replacing say 4 rolls per day on average. On 3 toilets. Now there is no way of actually knowing that one person wont be a bit silly and use half a roll.

We have even had the office staff take home loo rolls and paper towels. Who will pay for that?

Or on paper towels how many will get wasted and end up on the floor. We have sites that the loo roll and paper towels are thrown all over the place. - Not a fantastic clean site. The people are terrible. But the actual company who we contract too are great.

But estimating on a similar size I would say as follows:

Paper towels 1 1/2 box per month
Loo roll 3 - per day
Soap dispening fluid - 2 per week
Soap bars that a tricky one. 2 - 3 per month it depends if they want a fresh looking bar. You wont use that on a soap bar.

Why have soap bars if they have fluid, fluid is more hygenic. Convince then to do away with the bars.

Sorry I could not be of more help

If you work on the basis of £0.30p (thirty pence) per person per WORKING day your *guesstimate* won't be far wrong depending on your buying power and the customer not demanding that you use *branded* products. Women use more of everything if you want to take that into the equation. Don't guarantee the figure to the customer as they only want it for budgeting purposes. Your lucky as more and more silly customers want you to do this then fix the price. If you are an ISSA member (or know someone who is) they have a simple spreadsheet/matrix on their site which allows you to fill in the actual cost of the goods you are supplying (at the price you are able to buy them for) then works this sum out for you. Best of luck as it could be lucrative.

p.s Dispensers are a moot point as many JanSan companies throw them in as a freebie to close the deal. That's fine if you have a years contract but they do cost then there is the installation time/cost.

Thats great Dave - the customer will be paying for all consumables seperately to the cleaning costs so if someone nicks 10 rolls then that is an issue for them in the same way as if someone stole stationery for example. This is a great starting point and will more than suffice :)
