Just wondered who still uses the above, on what and what dilutions with hot water?

Havent used it much, just when i had a go with it after a spotting course but found it in the spotting case the other day and i know it can be very effective (so i was told!) even though its very smelly!!

also - anyone use the powdered hydrogen peroxide with good results and where can that be sourced from easily?

Hi Guys

Do a search on sodium met, there should be quite a bit of info.

Basically sodium metabisulphite is a reducing bleach and hydrogen peroxide an oxidising one.

That is SM, reduces the oxidation state and HP increases it.

Come along to the CCDO where I will be doing demos on the difference, but it comes down to experience and knowing which type of stains reduce and which oxidise.

Jim there is no problem mentioning cleantalk its another valuable forum that's here to help our fellow carpet cleaners, Doug probably deleted your pointless post because it was just put up to stir up a bit of trouble ( although in a light hearted way ) I say it was pointless because with the same effort needed to put your answer you could have just answered the original question

I saw your reply and left it because to me it looked like a charitable attempt to help a very quite forum get some much needed members, and I'm a big beleiver in charity work

Jim, I deleted your post because as a moderator on another forum you should know how it works.

Back to the topic inhand there has been lots of discussion on sodium met and I have written on it on several occasions. It is however quite complicated and one of those things where technical knowledge and practical application need to be applied.

As I expect to be snowed in soon I will write more extensively later but please lets concentrate on the topic.

When my family owned a chippy we used to treat the raw chips with dry white AKA.sodium metabisulphite.When you cooked them the heat destroyed the chemical,and we were left with crispy dry non greasy chips,which didnt go brown in the chip box.I know you all wanted to know that.

I wasn't trying to cause any trouble!  I simply know that JB is well experienced and remember him posting on the topic recently.

Doug, how "it works" is people helping others by giving the best advice they can, steering people towards answers to their problem.  I'm not sure if anyone else noticed but you actually failed to answer Jason's question, he wanted to know dilution rates, and even after all this posturing nobody has come up with the answer!

All you did was tell him what he probably already knew (oxidising/reducing) and then advertised CCDO, a little hypocritical don't you think?!

I'll keep my advice to myself next time.

The reason I suggested a search is that this topic has been discussed several times in the past and there is lots of info.

Dilutions will vary, there are health and safety issues, etc etc but as promised I will put together a more structured reply as time allows.
