Retractable ladder spikes?
« on: January 05, 2010, 05:14:44 pm »
Do these exist does anyone know?

Like, ones you can slide down & "click" into place when needed, then retracted & "clicked" up when not needed.

If not I think there would be a huge market for some.

Although the picture is the same, one set are for single ladders & the other for extension ladders.

i bought mine from ebay ,HAILO , when they arrived the design of them was slightly different from the ebay foto ,but basically work just as in the foto/////// but DEFO  the best few quid i ever spent . i find its best to set them only a 1/2 inch below the rubber feet .

they give great grip , yesterday i put my ladder on imprinted concrete which was so slippy to walk on and  the spikes  give great confidence  and so cheap too

cant remember which ebayer i bought mine off though!

jonny, I take it you can move them up via the wingnut?  Can you still close double ladder fully when they are fitted?

no you cant close the ladder up fully once theyre on , but your only talking about 8 inches or so .

yes, you just slacken the wing nut and either slide them up or slide them right off the bottom .  mine came with a diffrent design of the clamp and had a threaded bit  of rod which accomodated every size of ladder .i found i didnt need the rod as long as it was and i just trimmed it down with a hacksaw . the spikes are galvanised steel, quite heavy but after a day i never noticed the extra weight .

i leave my spikes on always , the only time i took them off was a few weeks ago when i had to take ladder inside a house and the spikes would have messed up the carpet . just slackened the wing nut and slid them off

its important Not to fit them too low down ,unless your using them on a lawn or really soft ground .
