An Alex Gardiner Ladder?
« on: January 04, 2010, 08:05:00 pm »
Yes, that's what needed, Alex to come up with a decent ladder. It should be light, have a very  short closed length, and reach beyond gutter height and to the apex of most houses. Not much chance of that though, the last i heard he was thinking of becoming a tax exile.

What am i on about? Well ladders, they are useless.

As you know i've just switched vehicles to the scudo comfort maxi, and expected the truck racks roof rack off my old scudo to fit.Well it doesn't, there aren't even any bolt holes in the roof to fit to.It was mentioned that i should get a fitting kit from truk racks.

But even if i fitted it i never liked having a roof rack, and on the new van the roof is much higher. So i wondered if i could get a ladder inside the upper roof. Measuring told me i'd got a bare 2.5m, so i've been looking for a decent ladder.

That's why i mention if only Alex would invent a good one;he's quite a niusance clearing off like that when we've got work for him.The best i saw was the zarges skymaster eight rung, £208 midland ladders but over £500 local retail. In the end i bought a 2.5 triple generic, £156, which fits inside the roof and is light and goes way above a gutter.

You supprise me slumpy

The fact you thought the old rack would fit! ;D ;D ;D ;D

And, the fact you're a window cleaner & didn't think to sort the roof bars even before van purchase! ???

Oh, yeah, & there's still the issue of having 3 men in 1 van! ???

Anyhow, happy new year. ;)

ouh contraire mac mac, the three men is sorted. A 1200 payload allows for this. The new ladder set up is easier and faster because i don't need ladder clamps. The triple does have to be split, two bits and one bit to go in, but it is a better way of working. It's about speed if you remember and breaking a ton an hour.If the last van was the black pearl of window cleaning earning machines, this one has to be the flying dutchman.

The info i got from the plylining guy who was also a truck rack agent was that my existing roof rack (which I kept would fit) but i needed a fitting kit. When i got the van there are no screw holes, but indents exist and i'm guessing you have to make your own holes.

This is the first ladder i have bought, the other two were pre owned and of little value.I use ladders for gutters etc, but prefer not use them apart from when people offer me insultingly large amounts of money.

Thanks for posting i thought i'd been sent to coventry.

I only have one lad at the mo, and he is not insured for ladders. I have to do it.

I know you are joking about the ban, but these new ladders are really good and wider. Also i have a ladder limpet, which takes time up but is reassuring.

I have had a couple of slips on ladders- mossy patios- and was scared enough to part with the limpet money, and smart enough not to send other people up.

I do make him climb over gate locked gates ;D
