Due to my beliefs i feel duty bound to be 100% honest with the tax man as i believe we have to answer to a higher power who you can not hide anything from.Jesus said in the bible pay back cesars things to cesar and Gods things to Gods when asked about taxes, so for me honesty is a must. Many people dont believe me when i tell them i declare everything and don't pocket some cash but they choose to live by different standards to me and therefore find mine hard to understand. Not saying  im better than anybody else just think i will gain greater benefit from being honest than any gain i would make being dishonest.

cos in your former life you were a 2nd hand car salesman right  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I know few guys who own fish & chip shops and they all have 300-500k cash at home in safe but don’t know where to spend it as it was earned in shop but never declared. They can spend small amounts but big houses and Porsche 911 is no no.

i know some1 who has just taken 1/4 of a mill out of the country ;)

Playing it straight is a good thing but I prefer to adopt those standards myself rather than feel that a deity might punish me for not adhering to them.  Such values also have a place in the lives of many non religious or atheistic folks I'm pleased to say.  I'm pleased to have discovered this because I was brought up to believe that such values only existed for certain types of religious people.
I do understand where you are coming from and applaud your values even though you may have them for different reasons to me.

Its not the Almighty punishing you have to worry about, if the Taxman punishes you then you'll feel it.

How many Declare  their Christmas tips and even the odd bottle of wine you may have been given? even the value of that bottle of wine is Taxable that you have to pay to the the taxman, so if you don't declare the above then you are not 100% honest with the taxman.  ;)

Its much easier to refuse Christmas tips and gifts than to have to fill out the paperwork and wait for the bill.

In this information age its becoming easier and easier for the taxman to track every penny you spend,.. its only a matter of time before cash is gone and everything leaves a paper trail. Its not worth the risk for a few extra quid, I'd rather the peace of mind.

Thats not to say I don't make mistakes, like was mentioned earlier, the extra window or one off clean for a neighbour etc etc might be omited from the accounts simply due to human error, but I do try my best and have done so since day one.

My business is built on honesty, probably the reason i am doing so well.

If i were dodgy and hiding a few quid, would i hold my head so high or would i be skulking in the shadows, worrying about the taxman instead of business growth.

This thread started by people stating that they were creating a seperate george account, a world of difference to pocketing the odd quid for the odd inside patio door.

All my friends and fellow businessmen say I am mad for declaring everything, funny thing is, I am doing better than most of them, there are a few exceptions out there but generaly the honest ones have the better businesses.

I skulk in the shadows and am honest with the taxman.
Would rather pay less but as self employed, have lots of things to spend company money on which is tax deductible.
Could be worse.
