hi all.
is there an  insurance that will just cover any type of cleaning work.
i  work on my own and currently am a wc and wash bins and im insured to do it.

say i wanted to do driveway cleaning, gutter cleaning, and domestic house cleaning. i presume these would all have to be added on to the policy and would cost a  fortune.


how are you all insure as i know most on here wont just offer one service?

Office cleaning
Window cleaning - trad & WFP
Carpet cleaning
And much more.

The insurance will cost you a fortune if you want cover for everything. And you wont require everything will you, you are not a delivery driver are you?

And its actually a requirement that you specify each activity. And in some cases a percentage of that activity. Some insurers wont insure for certain activities. Thats why it needs to be specified.

I would say that the window cleaning would cover you for gutters as you will be using a ladder or a gutter vac.

Office cleaning insurance does not protect you against damage for the item you are actually cleaning... Did anyone know that?

Carpet cleaning - does not cover you for cleaning the actual carpet unless you have RISK TREATMENT to cover the actual item you are cleaning... How bizzare. Risk treatment is extra premium.

Window cleaning i think is only underwritten by AXA and no one else. You can get the insurance from anyone but its AXA who are covering you.

It'll not cost a fortune, as a sole trader all you require is Public Liability insurance, just tell your insurers that you are now doing all aspects of cleaning, as a sole trader it used to cost me £89 a year for £1m PL insurance for windows, carpets and office cleaning.

However in order to do it you will have to speak to a broker on the phone as the on line options do not give you this choice

You maywell be correct if you are a sole trader.

Unfortunately we are a Ltd company with staff so costs a little extra. But I would say for his peice of mind that he should make sure what he is and is not covered for. As when if he has to make a claim he may well find he is not insured.

When we enquired about the insurance for windows and asked too add on gutters it was already in our policy as covered. There was a restiction on the height you could work at though.

we cover all aspects of cleaning including carpets, powerwashing, windows etc our insurance company asks what percentage of turnover from each service and works our premium out from that.

We are Ltd company with 16 staff, just about all aspects of cleaning covered, premium is £1078/year with £250 excess.  Work is up to a height of 25m

I have done a crime scene course and phoned to add needle picks to my insurance so we can add it to the new website and they said I was already covered but i had to use a licenced waste carrier which I am. £400 all in

interesting you say Quinn because the company I deal with for my van insurance, Wilsons Commercial in Manchester, rang me yesterday.
They noted some time ago when my business insurance was due (Jan 17th) and asked yesterday could they quote. I gave the details (as I had them at hand for my current insurer) and they came back with £500 +tax and + their commission - total £550, and that with only £250 excess.  This is for 5 workers on domestic cleaning and me on carpet cleaning, inc treatment risk (which I need to e a member of the National Carpet Cleaners Association).
It was through Quinn.

Last year it was over £900 from my current broker, with £500 excess.  The cover on Quinn looks the same as cover with last years. Be interesting what last years company quotes for this year.

I wonder if I could ask you a few question on Needles. - No I am not an addict! But I would like to offer that service.

Are you required to go on a course?

Which waste carrier does needles?

Funny that, mines due on the same day 17th Jan, it's also my birthday!!

The insurance company ask if you've been on a course because it affects the risk - I did my training with the NACSC

I'm a licenced waste carrier and if you tick the brokers box on the form then you can return the sharps boxes to your yard, then when your full either
call a contractor to collect the boxes or take them to the incinerator. If your not a broker then you have to have a contract really but thats works out dearer. You can get a deal going with your GP to drop them there. Sharps boxes are reasonably cheap.
You also need the full course of hep jabs, RA, MS,PPE  and the correct spray.

Just confirmed my renewal, they were wanting to increase the premium to £1500 as our business in more than 30% up on last year and I have 5 more staff.  I told them I'd already been looking and been quoted £1050, if they kept their premium same as last year I'd stay with them, they've agreed.

Closest other quote I actually got was.......................well basically more than their initial offer.
