Well I've watched the you tube video-that was a waste of 9 minutes 51 seconds of my time!
It doesn't really seem any different to any other "motivational" speaker who spends all his time telling you what he is about to do but never gets round to doing it.
So Bosh, I'm obviously thick; what is the connection to giving to charity?
But to answer the thread question I have principles which I use.
Firstly I give on a regular basis
Secondly it is generally to low profile charities and I look for ones whose overheads are less than 10%-and plenty of charities can manage that. This tends to mean that i would not give to, for example. Guide Dogs for The Blind-partly because their overheads are so high with their advertising and wages, but also because they tend to sit on huge reserves of money and never get round to spending the money which people have given in the belief that some blind person will actually get a dog.
Thirdly, I give through Gift Aid so that the tax can be claimed back.
Fourthly I rarely give to either an emotional response or emergency, as this tends to attract the spontaneous givers when there are other charities that require support on an ongoing basis.
Finally I cannot help but believe that the money from emergency responses is often wasted or disappears before it gets to the intended recipients.
Hope my answer is sensible enough?
