One appreciates that it can be rather grim up north but we know suffering down here.
Why only the other day one`s butler claimed to be ill and one had to light one`s own fire in the drawing room.
It was so inconvenient as the lazy bounder had not filled the wood basket so we had to make do by burning £50 notes.
It was all rather jolly in the end, Emily gave a poetry recital and young George played the pianoforte.

It doesn't take much trust me.
Just 3mm of snow on the M3, M4, M25 and that's it total gridlock
I was brought up in the South Wales valleys and we wouldn't give a second thought to walking one mile to school through 2 foot of snow, now all it takes is one teacher to say they don't fancy the risk of travelling to 'work' and the whole school has to be closed.

It's not actually gonna be that cold (temp wise) but the wind chill factor will be high. The conditions on the roads are the most worrying thing. I have a long drive across Kents Mways tomorrow morning with some very high ground thrown into that. But hey, at least I have my babycham to look forward to when I get home

I have 4 jobs tomorrow but only about 12 miles total travel
on decent A roads.
There also quite good at gritting round here.

I used to live up north,loved it up there,but that`s gettin on for 20 odd years ago now,like to visit at least once a year,like to climb Roseberry toppin or Odins scarr.Snow up there is dealt with,does not seem to bother people like it does here.
Just taken me 2 hours to do a 20 mile journey !

Good picture that Mark... I hate snow... I used to drive a lot between Kyle of Lochalsh and Faslane a few years ago and snow was just so second nature and dealt with....! Southerners are gay when it comes to wintry conditions.....

I lived in Slovakia for 5 years, what we have here is just a dusting compared from what they get the central Europe, minus 16-20, , 20" snow in a week, nothing stops, everyone just gets on with it.
They can't believe our obsession with the weather,no snow plows, or gritting , only a handful of 4x4's, no problem. I had a Subaru over there and they couldn't see the point, A Skoda, with mud and snow tyres was all the needed, and I tell you, it worked just fine.
Just think, with the snow you have had down south in the last 24 hours, imagine  it was every day until late February, could we cope? that's what they have.
N.B. They don't close the schools unless it goes below minus 22 degrees., Minus 21, we are open and you turn up, or else!
