ANY HELP OR ADVICE REQUIRED
« on: June 12, 2005, 12:21:27 am »
Hi all,

Just registered and have been reading all the different posts!!!

What a lot to take in, I'd never even heard of WFP!!!

Presently a service engineer covering the UK & Ireland, but would ideally like to start up my own business.
Have been looking into it for some time, car valeting or window cleaning.

I'm sure it's going to be window cleaning, there are so many car valeters around, but a good window cleaner.........hens teeth!!

Just moved near to sleaford, lincolnshire been here a year and I've never seen a W/C here though, the wife has a couple of times as she's walking to school looks like they do a couple of houses on our close then not seen for ages, never seen an advert or flyer, very odd.

I'm trying to work out how I can start part time, will need to use the WFP system as round here there are loads of houses with dormers in the attic, and I'm not risking life and limb climbing up a steeply pitched roof!! been there helping a friend tile a roof.....mmm too easy to slip.

Can't give up day job just yet like all of you family to look after mortgage to pay etc.
I know this will be difficult but need to get it started before leaving engineering behind me.
Don't know what to charge or anything really,I only know that there are no W/C's using the WFP round here!
So could be quite good. I think I would need a trolley system to get to the backs of the houses and the water here is very hard.

Any recommendations help advice would be really great and any W/C's near me who wouldn't mind training me let me know, I will take a weeks holiday to work with you.

Cheers Ian

I am not that far from you, I do quite a bit of work in Donnington near Boston. I use both WFP and Traditional methods, I mix and match depending on what I feel is quickest, but I will be starting to move over to wfp completely in the near future, am only taking on pole work now.
You are more than welcome to come and have a look/go/learn/pick my brains, whatever you need to know, I haven't been going that long myself (7 months) but have picked up quite a bit of info already.
I have been told that a gang of window cleaners from the Sleaford area packed up a few months ago, don't know how true that is but you will find work if you look hard enough and persevere.

Hi Marc,

Thanks for that, very good of you.

Don't know about the gang packing up, not seen any gangs or lone W/C's around here.

Just need to get started, had enough of driving round the country staying away at a moments notice.

It's very sad when you start treating a plane like a taxi !!

Cheers

Ian

Welcome to the forum.
If you want to give window cleaning a try but want to hold back on paying out for WFP equipment, you may want to start with an ordinary extension pole.  I have a 5 piece one that has quite a reach and have been using it for years.  It can't do everything that a WFP can but it may be an idea to try it out while you are decidng whether you want to go into window cleaning more permanently.  I'm not doubting your intentions, but many go to this when the weather is nice but falter when things get tough.
