Rotovac on Ebay
« on: December 16, 2009, 06:51:55 pm »
Hi Guyss
I have noticed a Rotovac on ebay and wanted your opinion on it. Currently I just use a wand with my TM but this appears to look and perform a lot easier particularly on big areas. Also any idea what they cost new and what this one worth?

Have you an item number as I cannot see it to give an opinion.

Cheers

Hi Henry

I have used a Rotovac for the last 4 Yrs. Fantastic piece of kit. New would be around £1500. If the Ebay item is only 12 mths old and used twice then it could be a bargain, at the right price!!! If used more then maybe need new carbon brushes. Also keeping the felt rings in good condition helps performance. You will also find you don't need such high psi as when using a scrub wand.

Do not use on low profile carpets, they bounce around too much, your better off just using a scrub wand.

If your using a TM and breaking your back with the wand then, perhaps, you could consider buying a glide. Should dramatically reduce the load.

Hi Adrian

Thanks for that, I'm just trying to make my life easier as none of us are getting younger. You mention a glide?? Does this fit on the normal wand and who sells them?

Have a look at the thread on page three by LUC, headed Green Glides........

As far as I'm aware they will fit most wands. For stockists, Google "carpet cleaning wand glides"

Richie,

Good link there. I didn't know they even make glides for the Rotovac as well. Any experience of these in practice?

How much do you reckon it'll go for?

£871.50 probably more than it's worth but I think this thread probably boosted it's price by at least a couple of hundred quid...................not that I was watching it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If it was 1 year old and little used, I think the price it went for was fai.
Most I have seen for sale have been £750 - £800, so the above price is ok.
Just waiting for the 360 to come on the market 2nd hand - then maybe.....

How much better is the 360 and how do these machines compare to the Hydramaster RX20?

If it was as new as claimed it was basically half price so I suppose it was fair. I lost out by twenty quid but you have to draw a line somewhere which was a shame as I could have done with cheering up this morning when I saw the snow.

If anyone else has one they want to move on, I would appreciate a call ;-)

I have not used a twin head rotovac but from what I heard you either love em or not. Apparantly there is a knack to setting them up, and also it leaves an unclean line between the two heads.

I have had a go with the 360 but only on short pile carpet. Its more like using a rotary machine.
It is a lightweight machine compared with the RX20.
The RX20 does have a very good reputation of getting the job done and well, but as it is so heavy its not carried in and out of the van for domestic jobs. Whereas the 360, being lighter, may be more suitable to domestic and smaller commercial.

HBR & Joe

The twin head R/V is simple to use. To set at the right height adjust the height control untill, with the machine switched off, you feel resistance against the carpet when pushed forward. When in opporation move the machine across half a width at a time, this will not leave "an un-clean line". After making solution passes go back over the area with dry passes as you would with a scrub wand.

I have to say using a R/V is slower than a scrub wand but IMO leaves a better finish. Just an opinion boys, I'm not looking for a war!!

I have lost count of the number of referral customers I have picked up simply because a client has been so impressed by the R/V that, "nobody else we've used had anything like that"

At the end of the day you pays your money and you makes your choice.

Just an after thought. You could arrange for a free demo from one of the suppliers before making your mind up. They normally have a machine they will let you try.

I ended up getting the one from E-bay as the original bidder didn't carry through. The seller split the distance and drove down from Glasgow to Carlisle with it which I really appreciated. It seems a great piece of kit and was in the exact condition it had been advertised as. Thank you David.

We are putting an NCCA open day on sometime in April 2010. If anyone wants to try it out let me know ( We don't sell them or anything so it's just an opportunity to look and play with a bit of kit you might have fancied)

Henry,

I live in South Cheshire, still a long way i know, but if you can't find anyone with a R/V any closer I'll be happy to help out. Where about's in West Wales are you? Could do with a day out some time.
