Has anyone used the swine flu epidemic in their marketing ?
« on: December 07, 2009, 09:24:45 pm »

I was listeneing to a piece on the radio today saying that companies selling cleaning products that claim to kill swine flu germs (and MRSA

MSRA...... MASA...... whatever ! ) anything from floor cleaners to surface wipes and hand gels have seen sales increrase by 100% since

swine flu hit the headlines, got me thinking it might be a good tag line for marketing for us guys.

Has anyone tried it ?

Cheers

Paul

Go down that route if you have no ethics.
Swine flu survives for 24 hours on hard surfaces and less than one hour on soft furnishings.
Got this info off a GP when a local nursery got all panicky about it.

Its perfecty ethical to inform the public that you have products and services that can kill and remove certain virusus, I can not see anything wrong in that at all.

We are all aware of the situation and if choosing a service if might give you a commercial edge over a rival if promoted, thats what we are in business for.

Go for it,

We have done several jobs where we have fogged and sprayed places with Chemspec's Formula 429 Plus.

Yes we market this product to surgerys, NHS buildings, child care facilities, etc, etc.  Follow manufacturers guidelines and you should be ok.  Got 2 nurseries to clean and wet fog over the Christmas shutdown period.

we are doing exactly the same as ian and its worth investing in a wet fogger and 429, we have a good primary school market and they insist on a de-con following an outbreak to pacify the parents and govenors, we found one of our prison contacts quite good as well, they have to prove diligence after an outbreak in service user areas to avoid tensions. i think if you look pro in hazmat etc when fogging it carries a message as well. i think we work at about £1.70 per SqM

Just to say having marketed local surgeries, child care facilities etc Its been well worth it, 2 jobs and another quote to do this Thursday.

I can't get my head round those with the negative comments, aren't we in business to make money ? Beats sitting around waiting for the phone to ring.

Fair enough point about being in it to make money, but knowing that the virus will die off within hours without the need to carry out any treatment, begs the question about ethics, in the same way as some old dear calling you in to clean a clean carpet. Do you take the job and the money, or go for the brownie points and possible further recommendations because of you honesty?

I can't get my head around why a surgery would want to be treated for a virus, when as soon as the next person walking through the doors with the virus, takes them right back to square one.

I think you'll find that 421 carries on working on all contact areas, weeks after treating. So the environment that has it - will benefit, in cutting down on spreading the virus.

Ok, for sure you cannot stop cross contamination between person to person via airborne particles, but this method of treatment is better that having no treatment. So as far as Im concerned, there is no question about ethics, as a job is being done.

If it is sold incorrectly then thats down to the individual.

I suppose the same argument could be said about protection i.e. being realistic in what it can do, and if it is sold correctly. Bet that doesnt stop you selling it though ::)
