Bait n Switch , a new angle
« on: December 04, 2009, 11:02:42 am »

Just got back in from 1st custy of day, a regular of mine , finished the job and she asked me could i book her mums in for January, no problem  I said.

Well she said, they are in a bit of a mess as she had her lounge carpet cleaned recently, "Wait for it"

A company cold calling offering a complete service on any vaccuum cleaner for £20 , and if they have this done any carpet will be cleaned for free, now apperantly her mum falls for any so called offer so went ahead, she had a so called service on the dyson, and her lounge cleaned in a manner leaving it soaking wet and very patchy, and the total price   £75  .

Makes you think !!!! the thing some people go for.
I have aske her to try and find if she had a number , so waiting to hear.

I had a similar call today. 3 carpets cleaned for £35,  Ad in paper (next to mine). In wifeys words  2 mingers turned up with small yellow machine. Then said bill would be £75, but agreed to £55. Walked into bedroom carpet, leaving muddy footprints all over carpet. At this point she chucked them out and phoned me. I could be p£shed off cos she phoned them first, but the general public don`t see like for like. Yet again they need educated in what a decent service should be. Also lost count how many people say "thats a big machine" when you turn up at the door.

I disagree, there will be a few who will use us for what we are but the majority who use 'this' type of service start believeing we are all like that, and that's where the danger lies.

These horror stories are great.

Even the mediocre carpet cleaner looks good compared to these guys and when someone has had that sort of experience they will latch on to you like a limpet if you do a half decent job at a professional price.

we had a company cold call offering 2 rooms 'maintenced cleaned' for £8.99. we were then approached on a job the following week by a neighbour who had been stood up by this company. had a look at the estimate slip and in tiny print in the corner it stated 'if your carpets are showing visual signs of dirt, then the maintenance special may not be adequate to clean your carpet completely and you mayu be offered our corrective cleaning service ' what is cleaning if its not corrective??

we took the slip with us to have a good laugh at later!
