When I first got into the cleaning in 94, I worked for quite a large national company.
The department I worked in had about 12 guys out on the road cleaning, they all worked in ghost names with made up NI numbers.
Quite funny really when I think back, what a sight it must've been to watch two signwritten minibuses turn up outside the job centre for everyone to sign on, then watch them all pile back in again to go back to work.
There's still alot of it about though. In my year off I worked as an area manager for a cleaning company, there was so much paperwork needed when taking on foreigners. It was a bit of a joke really, I usually had around 14 sheets of paper to hand into HR when taking new starters on, all that paperwork for a minimum wage cleaning job.
I did have to let one guy go due to the fact that he should of left the country three years previously, he was from Uganda. Shame really, he was one of the better ones I had.
And I did have another one that I was trying to catch out, she was eastern european, she was the name that was on the books, but I was sure she was bringing others in to do the work, paying them less and her pocketing the rest. But I could never prove it, plus she was built like a wrestler!!
