2 di vessals
« on: November 09, 2009, 06:56:06 pm »
im currently filtering my tap water of around 300ppm down to 000ppm using one di vessal now as everyone knows this turns out to be expensive! so im thinking of going r.o, but in the mean time is it worth getting a second d.d vessal untill i can afford an r.o system?

Im using a trolley set up at the moment, in the back of my car with some 25ltr tubs (getto set up)
so i cant go mobile r.o. and so i need to use a static r.o! which r.o system should i buy?

sorry for being such a pest! george. (G.B window cleaning)

out of interest mate how much water are you making a day/week and how long does a 25ltr bag last you at mo??????

two di will help a bit - when the first vessel is starting to creep up from zero use it as the second di vessel just to polish off the new first di vessel and so on.

most merlin ro's will do the job.

I would not think of getting an RO, I would get one, it depends on the amount of water you make and how quick you want it, if limited funds get a second hand 300gpd or a merlin for about £50/£60 you most be eating the resin going from 300

having 2 di's will save you on resin, but for the cost of a di vessal I would recommend getting an ro first, then when you can afford it get a second di vessal aswell do so as this again will save you money.

I would say a 4040 because they are quick to fill tank, but if money is tight a merlin or a 300gpd ro would be a start.

on the pre filters there are 2 options that most use 10inch or the 20inch, I am still undesided which are better 10 inch ones are just over a pound each to replace and the 20inch are about £20 ish for 2  :-\

you will be able to get an ro with your funds. for the amount your using I would get a secondhand one till full time then buy a 4040.

put an add in buy/sell section RO wanted cash waiting.

less than £100 will get you a ro, you may be lucky and get a second di vessal and more resin to boot.

go to wilkos and get a 210ltr water butt, less than £20. R.O into that. then to pump it out, a submersible pump from B&Q screwfix ebay etc. £20-40.

Using two resin bottles will make little or no difference to the amount of resin used.  Resin will remove a set volume of impurities, so it is mathematically possible to calculate how much pure water your resin will make if you know your starting TDS.  Once the resin is depleted it will not remove any more impurities.

As most others have said, the only sensible way to purify if you have more than about 50-60 TDS input is to use an RO
