Lol, whoever said it was right. Personaly speaking, I used to be scared of face to face, nobody likes rejection. Now it doesn't really bother me but I think if guys are scared of knocking and do it anyway, they are brave. I think that's what she means.

Read it twice and go knocking. It worked for me, with my fear of heights.  :)

Craig the book is called "Feel the fear and do it anyway"

A lot of flyers go in the bin without reading.

Door knocking is much more effective.

It's nerve racking, for everyone.
But you're in business, a service business, which involves selling your services.  So you need to sell them yourself our pay someone else to do it.  Face the fear  ;D  It's worth it, exciting and interesting.

i think the difference with leaflets and knocking, is that you get customers closer together. with knocking. That has been said many times in these threads. . I used to be really scared of knocking. once you speak to the first few people, the nerves go.
The problem is, if you have more than one service to offer. That is when I like the flyers.
You can get one or two cutomers an hour through leaflets. So I would not say they are a waste of time...

It's the woman that say yes you should be afraid of  ;D

I think once you've been out a couple of times it gets much easier

Knocking does get easier,   more custy's you have and get and a belief in yourself,

but the ole buterflies are ever present before a knock - i think many performers get this before starting a show.

Once YOU know you can do the job and do a great job knocking and rejection are not as painful,

if i see a badly maintaned house and don't won't w/c - cleaning i now feel its there loss not mine

Also I would set a target, be it £xx amount of work or number of customers. Set either a weekly or monthly target and I would write it down, this will help keep you focused and makes it harder for you to back out of knocking those doors.

Another reason door knocking works is that people get to see who they are dealing with, and that I think makes them feel more comfortable about the whole thing, and about you going in their garden etc.
I always go either in my work uniform (clean of course) and if people say NO then I offer a leaflet anyway. I have picked up a number of jobs from people being pleased I didn't pull a face or get stroppy because they have said no.

One even got me to do his business, his house and his daughters houses because his wife said I seemed a nice young man.  ;D

i went door knocking on saturday with my canvasser and we picked up £242.00 of new work , how many leaflets would you have to drop to reach that target ? those that only drop leaflets are generally afraid to knock and it will take for ever to build a round , just get out there and knock or get another job regards alan

Not sure if I understand what you mean "how". Simply from experience, from an hour of time, putting leaflets out. Say 90 leaflets. I generally get one or two calls. How many leaflets can you put out, in the time it takes to knock on 10 doors? I think leaflets work well if you have more that one service to offer .

From experience in the last 2 months i have found a far better return in door knocking than just a simple leaflet drop, i leaflet dropped in the region of 1500 in the first month and only got 2 calls and out of that 1 customer, the rest of my start up work was family, friends of family and for the past 2 weeks i went out and knocked doors and just on saturday past managed to get myself 8 in the one day, not all are going to be 4 weekly but they are all future customers, then i got 5 new the previous week and 1 the week before(all repeats)  So its worth the knocking, i now have around 35 customers compared to this time last month where i had around 15 :) Im chuffed to bits and i love seeing my income rising each month, i have set myself realistic targets, set myself 5 houses on saturday and got 8, still have to go back and finish the area so i may get more :)

Just been out for an hour today. I picked up 3 more custies 2x4 wks 1x8 wks. That's 15 new customers this month from a target of 50 for November, all except 1 from door knocking(the 1 was a recomendation). So I'm all for door knocking  ;D

Edit: I've just had some one phone from a leaflet I put through there door when there was no answer. So that's now 16/50 this month
