Making a wfp trolley
« on: October 30, 2009, 11:07:32 am »
Ok, so I now have a free day to get more custys after shifting a day about.

I've picked up a few terraces lately and its a good crack come price to time. Problem is that parking is an issue.

I'm planning on making my own trolley at half the cost of buying one.

I have a sack truck. At the bottom I'm planning on fitting a box for pump & battery. Then on top of the box having a 25L barrel sitting there.

If I had a hose coming from the pump, out of the box and into the 25L barrel through the lid, would the pump still draw the water ?

That way I could drop off the water in selected places, park up and use the trolley for the day.

Before someone says it... Yes I'm a tight git and yes I like making things

mine is done like this

car battery on plate of sack truck, this has  a box around it, then the 25 L barrel is put on top of this box

then fixed to the back of the sack truck is the pump box, i have cable from the pump box to the battery ( with croc clips on it )

the from the pump box i have a hoselock connection thats the OUT pipe, and a pipe that runs up and over into the barrel

it works well and does a good job

i dont have any pics, a wheel has worn on my sack truck, so i will get a new sack truck this weekend

this pump is 38 quid delivered ( they are cheaper on ebay sometimes )

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Marine-Automatic-Fresh-Water-Pump-12v-2-6-lt-min-35psi_W0QQitemZ380151300101QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_BoatEquipment_Accessories_SM?hash=item5882c88005

for very little use, i would consider a 12V sub pump, like this

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Caravan-submersible-water-pump-12v-10-litres-per-min_W0QQitemZ390110596852QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Campervan_Caravan_Accessories?hash=item5ad4674ef4

its 10 L per min, but if you fit a short bit of pipe and then a T , 1 off the T just left ( thus just left returning back into the barrel ) and the other of the T going up the pole, now having it like that will put 5 L back into the barrel and 5 L up the pole, many will find 5 L per min too much, so just fit a little tap / valve on the pipe to the pole, turn down that tap and more will flow back into the tank

its 10 ish quid delivered, a couple of quid for the pipe and fittings ( B&Q now sell a wide range of pipe and fittings )

i know some will scoff at the idea, but for 10 quid and occasional use, its got to be worth a go
