If you use protectakote, there's no need to take the ply-lining out. Just paint over it making sure you seal the joins.
you miss one pin hole with protectakote that the ply will act as a sponge ;)

Take the ply out

Painting over the ply will protect not only the floor of the van but the ply as well. ;)

Purefreedom just said leave the ply in as long as its sealed at joins and also not got oil stains on it, as the protecka-kote won't take on oil.

When i done mine last weekend, i was ok as it has only just been ply lined.

Also the protecta-kote is that good i can not imagine there would be any little pin holes left as it covers brilliant.

forget pin holes,  for now, just think about when you move hose     reels in and out or other items in and out of van this paint is not as hard as steel it wears quick if stuf is moved about on it a lot. this will cut through the paint and water will get in at least if there is no ply you will see the problem so can be sorted, leave ply in and it will soak it like a sponge and then the water will want to get out and the way to do this is down

this will simply trap water between the ply and the van floor. It will be wet all the time so it will actually rust faster than an unprotected floor.

Protectakote is used on floors as a health and safety measure to stop people from slipping, so surely it's ok on top of the ply. A few items moved around on it can't do much damage surely.

No matter how careful you are, water will get under the ply,.. then the rusting begins.

When you drag things in and out I believe you will see if the ply is damaged as well as it is soft so it will mark  ( I have had my van for about 3 months no damage to ply yet )  , so you can touch up the paint. Not only that you should be using  marine ply wood, which is waterproof, If you maintain your van properly like me, you would see any marks to floor or damage on sealing, so nothing will leak through underneath.
To me it looks you can do the protecta-cote both ways, on the ply or take out the ply, it just means you will have to keep eye on covered areas and maintain floor if its damaged which ever way you do it.......

As i posted above, why leave the ply in ,? it will cause more problems than its worth,

simply take it out and paint the metal floor.

seeemples. :)

I used to have ply on the floor of my van. It does trap water between it and the floor. I   now have rubber matting to help protect the protectokote from scuffs, knocks, wear and tear etc which can easily be removed to allow the floor beneath to be cleaned, dried etc.

Protectokote with rubber matting is my solution.
