When it starts leaking or the coating starts to rub off.

Been using them for nearly three years and they never leak. Taps don't leak either. Often walk through customers houses all pressured up and never a drop on the floor. I have the reel pressured for the whole day and don't turn it off 'till I get home  ??? Hose can leak if you aren't capable of fitting o rings properly.

They should have rectus 21 stamped on the side if they are genuine. I dont think you will find the ones off ebay are.

Another way to check the quality is to see how many bearings are inside. Again, the genuine ones have 5 but the cheap ones only have 4.

;D not the same one for three years! However I've probably only got through half a dozen at the most. Normally they chip around the circlip or the ball bearings eventually give up. Never leak during normal days work though.

I try to protect the fittings by having a tennis ball at the end of the hose nearest to the fitting....

I recently got thru 4 original rectus fittings in a year. Kept leakin sooner or later. My latest one has lasted 8 or 9 months. No rhyme or reason. Strange. I would recommend rinsing out at the first sign of grit inside them. And tennis balls  ;) Cheap as chips, light and more than protect the joints unless ya really unlucky.
