What are the best connectors ( microbore to pole hose)
« on: October 26, 2009, 05:24:15 pm »
Hi,
i have 100 m of yellow microbore purchased from pure freedom, with the blue reel,

on the end, i have a metal tap with a male snap on thing ez snap or something.... then at the bottom of my pole hose, i have the female snap on,

now, thats fine, until i go get a new fitting, and although they send me the same..... they do not fit !

i took this up with pure freedom, and they were very good,..

they tried them on there own stuff, said perfect fit and re-sent me some more ..... they also did not fit... it was the female push fit.

i am thinking about doing this some other way, where i can get fittings readily and easily as these are not that good anyway..leaks, and other issues etc etc.

What do you all use , can i get parts from pond , and aquarium suppliers or air hose people?

Thanks for any help.

I do it a bit different to you.  I jubilee clip a bit of half inch hose on the end of the microbore and use a plastic hozelock type fitting with a flow controller.  You can often get them in garden centres (usually the Gardena ones - nothing to do with Alex  ;D  ).  I know some of the companies usually stock similar ones as well.  For an emergency, you could always use one without a flow controller I suppose - the point being that they're easy to get hold of.
To fit into them, I have found the best male fitting is the fairly new black one that Ionics do.  It slots into the pole hose just fine without the need to mess about with O rings.  It also seems to "stick" in the hozelocks better than the metal connectors that Ionics and Omnipole supply.
Of course, the downside with hoseloicks is that they are plastic and can break.  I probably get through 3 or 4 a year usually @ £3 - £8 a time depending which ones you have.

If there is a machine mart in your area they sell the correct fittings for your needs and obviously you dont have to wait when you need any replacements.

yes i use on / off valve on all my poles but i dont use microbore or minibore i just use 100 mtrs of clear pole hose and all my connections are push fit so it takes seconds to set up and be working .

you use clear hose  :o do you not have any corners on your houses, or rose bushes, or trees, or gates or car tyres or pot plants or planters or wheelie bins or steps ?

does this not wear out very quick ?

because if it does'nt this would be great I could save myself a load of hassle

no the thin end gos into your micro bore then the thicker end you fit your garden hose with a hoselock type fitting then on your pole hose use 1 of these , with the hose lock use the brass type .

do the microbore fitting to pole hose with a holster. Cost £10 something.
