2 x reels using one pump
« on: October 26, 2009, 01:42:24 pm »
Is it possible to run two reels off one pump?

Would there be a significant pressure drop?

I use a 100psi pump at the off one reel.

But   Dale ( who hates Tea) is helping me out one day a week, and figure it would make things easier if we had the two reels working.

At the mo, I'm using the main van tank, and Dale ( who hates Tea) brings his trolley.

Any advise would be appreciated - Thanks :)

depends on the lpm not the psi. two of our vans have spliters on the pumps to operate two people. works fine. the pumps on our vans are 5.2lpm

Yes you will loose presssure, but will still be enough for 2 reels, and when one turns off the other pole will speed up.

I always think that eventually you will have to replace things so why not just double up on equipment !!!!
I have two complete set ups so if one breaks down then we can still do some work until i can replace equipment that has gone kerput.

I would use a Y piece. Lol

We do this regular, run 2 poles from 1 pump.

You've got it stop on, for the sake of an extra £100 pump and just some scraps of hose, you're better off with 2 independant systems.
I've been out with someone using a varistream and 2 hose reels and I was very disappointed after all the rave reviews I've read.

For nearly 4 years I have run a pump for each reel, I had 2 x 60psi flowjet pumps,No electronic controller as the flow rate was spot on,2 ltrs a minute.

But 3 weeks ago one of my pumps gave up on me,I limped along for 2 weeks with my one pump (60psi) running 2 x 100mtr of microbore.Flowrate just under 2 ltrs a min.

I have put on the new 100psi Flowjet triple chamber pump from cleaning spot. Wow my 60psi pumps had a flow rate of over 6 ltrs a min.The new Flowjet 5.3 ltrs a min. Tripe, its stonking, if I run it through one reel of 100 mtr microbore hose it useing over 4 ltrs a min. Too much water used,So I have rigged it up to run both 100mtr reels and it is still  pumping out at somewhere between 2.5 to 3 ltrs a min when both hoses are on.

So this new pump can easily run 2 reels. We went through 700ltrs of water in 5 hours this morning. Time to invest in an eletronic controller. But the pump costs only £83.94 incl VAT or £166.75 incl vat if you buy it with a digital controller.

Superb pump plus its a lot quiter then my old ones.

Or instead of electronic controller, put T peice after pump, and connect the one side of it back to the tank with a tap, and the other to the reel, then you can vary the flow to your pole and the rest goes back into your tank  ;)

Cheap as chips.

is it really worth the aggro for the price of a controller?

having a controller is easy once its fitted. sounds like aggro with a tap and pipe going back to the tank

Actually lol.

 :D

I have just invested in a Eco-flo a Flojet triplex. but the idea above with the t piece sounds very smart and in my opinion simple. Saves £100. Which sometimes people dont have or dont wanna spend. And sometimes why spend when its not needed.

Although I cant talk, I want to have the bigger better things  :o

This is spot on, I got a 2 man set up, pump went early into a day and I would of lost due to not working the rest of the day would of paid for 2 pumps, carry on with pump 2 while new one on way and will now use pump 2 till resin is dead on it and then over to pump one on new resin .
