Would this work without harming an sl2 section that has stuck together?

No, it will crush the sections, use2 turns of  pvc tape to build a buffer/stop to prevent it happening again.

Jeff,

There is no way they would crush a pole section, they work using friction not pressure.

I'm gonna buy a set of these for my SL2, nothing worse than being alone on a job and not being able to make the pole small enough to fit in the van!

No they aren't stuck anymore jeff. I probably get a section stuck once a week. But they always come undone with another pair of hands. Normally a customer.

yes have tried. :'(
Its not the belts that crush( they dont grip very well and spin) but the leverage/twisting moment  between the pair working in opposite directions - like trying to bend the poles.
Your hand grips better even if it hurts after a bit. Heat works.

Those rubber grips aren't up to the job. Best thing going is to stick on some marigolds to get the best grip going and make sure you turn clockwise to undo, NOT anticlockwise.

Those tools work like a cam - the further you pull them round the tighter they grip untill eventually the plastic teeth will crush into the pole. A better solution would be the thin rubber mats Aldi sell for getting a good grip on objects. End of the day though rubber gloves are the best. Vaseline seems to work pretty well on my pole joints along with the old insulation tape trick.

Jeff, how much heat. 1 and 2 sections are stuck together again. Tried usual ways but no joy.
I bought a little gas burner to heat it up if i'm stuck again, when i'm out.
But how much heat is necessary. How and what section is it best to apply heat to?

Lots of heat/cold. The sections are baked in an oven so you cannot dammage them with heat.
Get an electric paint stripper and heat by rotating the tip of the largest section (3/4") first,  for say 2 -3 min then let it cool down naturally. Then do it again, and again and again. Leave it overnight ( go to bed and switch off) and then try to gently pull it apart.Or if your impatient have a go at pulling it apart (on the cooler bits or it will burn you) on the 2nd or 3rd heat application. If it doesnt work repeat the process until it does, It will work just give it time  8)
Its the gentle heat expansion and contraction that does it. I suppose you could put it under a tap to speed up the cooling down.
The first and second sections are the weakest and will take lots of patience, so dont force them or you may break them with just very firm hand pressure.
If it still doesnt work you can then try wd40 as well, but the heat should work. Let me know  :) dont rush and it will save you having to buy new sections.

Matt I sprayed wd40 on it thursday and last night. Knocked on the neighbours door for assistance today and it is stuck.
Will spraying wd40 on the joint once it is apart, help it not get stuck next time?

Thanks jeff, i will try that. I did have a little go earlier but was attempting it blind and worried about melting the pole. Will keep trying.

I used to get this problem. perhaps try 2 people gripping each section?

since I put a couple of turns of electrical tape on each section to stop the sections compressing together too much, I have not had a stuck section once!

No they stack inside each other. With a little bit sticking out of the end.

When my fishing pole got stuck I would use gaffer tape to undo them - take two lengths of gaffer and fold along the lengths so that you have pieces about a foot long and sticky side out.

Wrap around each pole section so that half sticks to the pole and the other sticky half faces out. Grip the poles round the tape and now your hands are stuck to the pole via the gaffer.

Untwist CLOCKWISE.
It's a game of three halves!
