hard floor help
« on: October 15, 2009, 01:41:41 pm »
got to do a large quote for some carpets. trouble is theres a small section of hard floor that they also want cleaning, i don't clean hard floors but think i'll lose the quote if i can't clean this small section in with the carpets so.........

its basically about 30 sq meters of toilet flooring, only way i can describe it is.... its mottled brown with what looks like shiny glass bits in it.....

question is, is there anything i can put on it (in the cc chemical range) and then just mop it with the bonnet buffer, its not like it has to look fantastic or need sealing as this job is an end of tenancy business who have to clean the building upon vacation so a reasonable job would suffice.

anyhelp would be gratefully welcomed as i'd like this job, its a bit of a biggy.

cheers in advance

derek

Sounds like safety flooring.
STS from Solutions is a good cleaner.
Mop on, leave for a few minutes, scrub with rotary/brush or rotary/pad.
Use a doodlebug in areas rotary will not fit.
Suck up with wet pick up or wet and dry vac and then damp mop.
Job done.
£1.50 to £2.00 per metre plus VAT ia about what we would charge.

Derek if you have any ultrapac renovate from Prochem, this will clean it up just fine. Mop or spray down, scrub in and extract.

Altro flooring is pretty bullit proof Derek, I would not recommend using powerburst or blitz on hard floors but may work with alot of rinsing from your truckmount. Alternatively if you have any microsplitters these will work much better. Personally I would get some ultrapac as this works extremely well on altro, plus you will get more use out of what is left for draft marks etc

Hi Guys,

I would go with Derek, Ultrapac is a must on your van, extremely good on PP as well.

Just mop on the cleaning solution, scrub and mop off.

The trick is not to overwet and then you don't need a wet vac but you do have the TM if necessary  ::)

Cheers

TO add to this Derek I would scrub with a black pad and I agree Ultrapac is great for Altro

thanks for the advice guys. may get some UP and a black bonnet.

but just in case, would i get a result with splitter and a normal bonnet?

and if its bullet proof, could i use the bonnet attachment for the rx without a bonnet?

bristles on that baby would take the skin off a rhino's backside ;D

Hi Derek,

I wouldn't use that as it may cause damage.  The bonnet will not give enough agitation imo.  the pads are ony a few pence compared to the cost of the clean and to be honest having thaem is good as you can now add this to your serivce offering.

we used u.p renovate, scrubbed with green pad, wet n dry vacuum to suck up excess - I had advice from the guys on here & a few said black pad might be a bit harsh for it maybe it was cos we were doing a light coloured flooring but green pad really did the job.

if you had the hard floor brush attachement for the rx then it would be simple - other than around the toilet pan of course, anyone close to you could give you a lend of one?  wouldn't worry too much what you spray down to clean it, i use whatever is at hand, your not going to damage that flooring expecially if your rinsing it with the tm

All you need to do is buy some floor stripper wet the floor for 10 mins then take suck it off. A high ph floor stripper you can buy for about £5.00 per gall. If you have a rotary scrubber then all the better but you will have trouble getting into the cubicles. The chemicle will do the majority of the work it is pretty straight forward really.

I f you look at www.altro.com they detail the ways to clean and maintain the various floor types.  They plug their own products of course but it's useful.

The best machine type imo for cleaning Altro is a twin brush contra rotating machine such as the Multiwash or Rotowash.

With these types of machine you have two brushes rotating at 600rpm with the weight of the machine concentrated on the brushes.

The down pressure compresses the floor, the brushes then lift the dirt from the floor and in to the recovery tank.

Use Ultrapac Renovate or Safety Floor Cleaner from Arrow Solutions.

From personal experience, I wouldn't recommend using a carpet wand, either with or without a glide.  The little speckly bits are Aluminium Oxide, like sandpaper!  The floor will wear away the contact point of your glide or wand lips.

A black pad won't hurt it at all, the floor will just rip up the pad (there will be little bits of your pad left all over it after scrubbing).  You could mop on your solution, scrub with a black pad and then just mop it up again using fresh water.  That'll give a good visual result but not ideal because you're not rinsing nearly enough.  If it's an EOT and isn't the main focus of the job I'd do it that way.

Invest in a hard floor wand! :)

p.s. In the absence of a hard floor wand, you could do a little make do an mend arrangement to rinse it better if you have one of these, with the pipe that goes with it:

Stick it in a 1.5" hose cuff attached to your TM and have your helper flood the floor with fresh water whilst you suck it up.

Completely half-arsed way of doing it but would get you out of the doo-doo as a one-off.  Then invest in a hard floor wand, or did I say that already? :D
